Job description
Our client is a well-established supplier of waterworks products and services to the civil construction industry in North America. They are currently in need of a top performing Director of Operations who will be overseeing five branches located in the Greater Vancouver Area and Vancouver Island.
The new hire will manage the operations of the assigned branches, developing operational strategies for efficient and effective performance, minimizing operational costs, and ensuring compliance with all company policies, standards and applicable regulations.
Office presence will be required, although the new Director of Operations will have the chance to work from their home office up to two times a week. Candidate can be located close to any of our client’s branches in the Lower Mainland.
Responsibilities:
- Develop operational plans and strategies, manage their implementation at the branch level, ensuring alignment with business unit objectives and provide support and correcting course where needed.
- Monitor capital expenditure requests, analyze the value-added for alignment with the company strategic financial objectives, and make recommendations to leadership.
- Ensure that the branch surpasses budget expectations by effectively managing costs and EBT.
- Assist in achieving targets related to inventory management, including minimizing stock levels and addressing slow-moving and obsolete item.
- Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement where necessary.
- Promote compliance with corporate policies and procedures throughout the assigned province.
- Work with the VP/GM to develop performance goals and operational budgets for the assigned province.
- Work with the Branch Managers, ensuring branches are properly staffed and audit branches for compliance to the use of proper procedures.
- Contribute to achieving targets related to cash flow management.
- Collaborate with the Procurement department to monitor branch inventory/stocking levels and provide input on any issues that arise.
- Direct and supervise staff, participating in recruitment, selection, orientation and evaluation of employees and developing personal growth opportunities.
- Ensure work environments are safe, secure, and adequate.
- Communicate and explain new company policies, procedures and key initiatives to operations staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in management or leadership roles, preferably in Operations.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills to coach and lead teams to fully deliver on their objectives.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diverse business functions and processes and ability to manage budgets.
- Strategic decision-making, problem-solving, analytical thinking and time management skills.
- Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to independently prioritize workload and actions effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to motivate people and to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
