As part of this approach, we have developed a new Technical Engineering and Design Services Team responsible for the designs used in the construction and maintenance of these existing Provincial Buildings.

About Our Opportunity

 

As the Architectural Assistant 3 (Electrical), you will be part of a group of Technical Experts who will ensure that construction, repair or maintenance projects undertaken by this new Technical Engineering and Design Services Team are completed in a professional, safe and efficient manner.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Requirements of this position include a solid base and understanding of electrical systems and approaches applied across a broad spectrum of infrastructure. You will apply fundamentals and engineering tools to design normal and emergency power distribution, communication, life safety, lighting, instrumentation and building control systems. You will contribute to the continued development of standards and best practices that reflect the organization’s priorities with respect to safety, energy efficiency, sustainability, accessibility and fiscal restraint.

 

Through the application of these standards, you will work within a team of technical experts to produce construction documents in the form of drawings and specifications, clearly defining the work required as a means of achieving best value. You will review construction documents prepared by others to ensure alignment with the intended scope, clarity, and consistency with our established standards.

 

You will support the project team through all project stages in the role of designer and/or owner representative, performing shop submittal reviews, general conformance reviews on site, and supporting project close-out.

 

You will be located in downtown Halifax and will support a wide range of projects in every corner of the province. As such, travel will be required to perform field reviews to establish existing conditions, provide troubleshooting expertise, make recommendations on work required and confirm the quality of work performed.

 

You will work as a member of a team that supports a variety of clients with varying levels of technical knowledge. A client focussed approach shall be employed with the intent of building strong relationships and trust. This includes the need to manage expectations through open and respectful communication and to fulfill agreed deliverables within established schedules.

Qualifications and Experience

 

You have completed an approved program as an Electrical Technician or an Electrical Engineering Technologist and have eight (8) years of related experience. You are a Certified Electrical Technician or Technologist and member of a recognized Canadian Association or qualify for certification by a Canadian Association. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

Working Conditions

 

This position has a combination of office and field work. Field work occurs in adverse weather conditions and normal hazards associated with construction sites and working with or near heavy equipment are present.

 

This position will require climbing, working at heights and/or working within confined spaces.

 

You must be able to work under adverse conditions in times of emergency and sometimes overtime may be required.

What We Offer

 

 

Pay Grade: TE 26  

Salary Range:  $2,561.85 - $2,993.09 Bi-Weekly
