Summary

YSR is in search of an Intermediate Restoration Ecologist to join our growing team. This position provides
a unique opportunity to be a part of the Yukon’s growing restoration and reclamation economy. This
position will undertake a variety of tasks related to the management and implementation of
reclamation, restoration, and nature-based design projects throughout the Yukon for communities,
industry, government, and non-governmental organizations. The position will also include contributing
to the development of YSR’s native seed collection and banking program, capacity building training
program, and bespoke restoration business lines.

We are looking for someone who can take initiative to help grow YSR as a business, and work with a
variety of partners to develop the Yukon’s restoration and reclamation economy. This position requires
someone to be able to work independently as well as part of a highly collaborative team of various experts, board of directors, and partners. A love for the natural world and desire to restore and steward
the vibrant Yukon landscape is a must.

Corporate Background

Yukon Seed and Restoration Inc. (YSR) is a subsidiary of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation
(NNDDC), the development corporation for the Citizens of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun.
YSR provides ecocultural restoration services and community-based environmental training through
project planning, native plant research, and field ecology projects in the Yukon. We help industry,
Indigenous, and non-profit organizations meet regulatory, social, and environmental goals to ultimately
make the land good.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The Intermediate Restoration Ecologist’s tasks will include:

• Leading and supporting ecological and reclamation related site assessments. This will include
  managing field teams.
• Designing and preparing recommendations and prescriptions for reclamation/restoration based
  on the needs of the project.
• Working with clients to implement reclamation/restoration projects.
• Planning and managing project and field operations to ensure that all tasks are completed
  successfully and on time.
• Contributing to the development of YSR’s native seed program, including collecting, processing,
  storing and testing a variety of native seeds.
• Supporting the Restoration Ecologist to manage YSR’s seed inventory and cataloguing system to
  ensure proper handling, testing, and deployment of all seed stock.
• Assisting the Restoration Ecologist and General Manager in relaying technical details to clients.
• Assisting with the facilitation of skill and capacity building training programs in partnership with
  various Yukon communities and First Nations clients.
• Supporting the senior project team in large proposal efforts and supporting small proposal
  development. This includes, but is not limited to, business proposals and government funding
  applications.
• Completing reports on field projects and training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Natural Resources Field.
• Have experience planning, implementing, and managing field programs including site
  assessment, baseline monitoring, vegetation surveys, and reclamation/restoration project
  implementation.
• Be comfortable working in remote areas of the Yukon and have knowledge of field safety
  protocols.
• Be willing and able to work independently and take initiative to carry out activities to improve
  operations.
• Be willing to spend much of the summer field season (approximately a week at a time) in
  remote locations, including hotel and camp settings.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Have experience preparing technical reports, memos, and other written communications
  material using Microsoft Office Suite (or similar) software)
• Have a valid Class 5 Yukon license or equivalent (required).

Considered an Asset

• Have experience working in the Yukon or similar northern settings.
• Have familiarity and previous experience working with First Nations communities, the Umbrella
  Final Agreement and/or First Nations relations.
• Hold a valid certification in Wilderness First Aid and be aware of wilderness survival techniques.
• Be familiar with ArcGIS and have a basic knowledge of Geographic Information Science (GIS).
