Job Purpose

Internship title: R&D mechanical design; high-speed motors and inverters

Internship description :
As a Mechanical Designer Intern, you will join the Advanced Engineering team, part of the engineering department responsible for the development of traction motors and high-voltage electronic products for electric vehicles.
You will contribute to the Advanced Engineering team's mission to bring new technologies and innovations to maturity, enabling the motors and electronic products developed to stand out from the crowd.
The team is called upon to support the various technology roadmaps maintained by the Product Development and Product Planning groups, as well as by representatives of the Light Vehicle, Commercial Vehicle and Off-Highway Business Units. The team is responsible for completing technology evaluation and demonstration projects, . In addition, it must promote and support technology transfer in partnership with product development teams.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Your challenges:
Lead and/or participate in the design and development of new high-speed motor and traction inverter technologies or their components considering multiphysics constraints.
-Model and draw parts and assemblies for prototype motors, electronic products and experimental proofs of concept
- Perform dimensional chain calculations
-Produce manufacturing drawings under supervision
-Lead or participate in the various stages of an Advanced Engineering project, including identification of objectives and risks, planning of activities, design, procurement and manufacture of prototypes, experimental validation, documentation and sharing of results.
-Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (Electromagnetics, Electronics, Software, Mechanics) towards the achievement of objectives and the resolution of problems.
-Conduct or support laboratory and test room tests
-Supervise and support the work of technicians and assemblers when required
-Conduct and participate in risk and failure mode analyses
-Integrate operational safety principles
-Contribute to establishing, maintaining and improving processes
-Lead or participate in design reviews of Advanced Engineering projects, involving members of product development groups.
-Participate in product development group design reviews

-Maintain a good knowledge of the internal and external state of the art in order to propose informed adjustments to Advanced Engineering projects.
-Collaborate with partners inside and outside Dana, including specialized companies, national laboratories and universities, both locally and internationally.

Your strengths:
-Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
-Experience with CAD software (Asset: NX)
-Basic knowledge of geometric and dimensional tolerancing (GD&T)
Curiosity, resourcefulness, autonomy and results-oriented decision-making
-Humility, resilience, and openness to criticism and ideas
-Knowledge of metal and plastic parts manufacturing processes
-Interest and ability to develop and use multidisciplinary skills, both theoretical and practical, to achieve results

-Project management skills: assess technical risks and workload, build and maintain a schedule and budget, communicate contingencies and plan mitigations

-Asset: Experience in mechanical design of rotary machines
-Asset: Experience in using lifecycle management software (PLM)

Course of the internship
The internship will be carried out under the direct supervision of the technical design manager within the advanced engineering group. The work week is 37.5 hours, starting no later than 9 a.m. each morning, and may include telecommuting at the intern's request. Dana TM4 offers a shuttle service from the Longueuil metro station in the mornings and evenings to facilitate travel to the Boucherville site.
