Job description
Located north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Northern Farms Food Ltd. and Virtex Grain Exchange Ltd. own and operate a non-GMO canola processing facility. Their continued commitment is to produce and sell quality, value-added food products from their farmers to meet consumers' needs.
Reporting to the CEO of VGE, the General Manager will be responsible for all aspects of 24/7 specialty oilseed crush and edible oil refinery operations. They will provide leadership in all production aspects and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a cost-effective operation, safety, continuous improvement, and employee engagement. Responsibilities will include hands-on team leadership and oversight of plant operations, including safety, financial management, monitoring and ongoing plant productivity improvement, and risk management.
This role requires an enthusiastic team leader who can foster a positive environment. Your day-to-day operations experience will drive the company's growth and expansion. Moreover, there is ample opportunity for professional development within the organization.
Essential Functions:
· Will oversee manufacturing operations, maintenance, and quality departments.
· Plan, organize, and direct the manufacturing and maintenance operations, ensuring the most effective asset return.
· Hiring, developing, and training key staff members, promoting the development of a well-trained and motivated employee team.
· Develop and maintain a positive employee relations atmosphere to promote a safe and productive work environment while fostering a culture of continuous improvement in all facility areas.
· Manage spending against budget and with changes in production volume.
· Manage costs and improve efficiencies in all areas of plant operations.
· Initiate plans and processes that minimize manufacturing costs by effectively utilizing workforce, equipment, facilities, and materials.
· Assure business objectives and production schedules are attained while ensuring product standards that exceed our customers’ expectations.
· Maintain a clean and safe plant with an injury-free work environment.
The Ideal candidate will have:
· Post-secondary degree or diploma. A focus on Business or Engineering is preferred.
· Proven experience in leadership roles, responsible for the day-to-day management in the Agricultural industry
· Experienced team leader with a proven track record of hiring, training, developing, and retaining employees.
· Knowledge of the Agriculture industry
· Demonstrated good business skills regarding budgeting, cost analysis, and reports.
· Proficiency in MS Office.
