Summer Inclusion Coordinator

Job description

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary position of "Summer Inclusion Coordinator”.

The Summer Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of integrating children/youth with diverse abilities into summer programs and supervising Summer Inclusion Leaders. The Summer Inclusion Coordinator engages, integrates, and leads in the provision of quality experiences for participants with diverse abilities into recreation programs and services. Recreation Programming categories include: sports, arts, special interest, cooking, dance, out trips, and more. The Summer Inclusion Coordinator also assists with the training, supervision and mentorship of volunteers and Summer Inclusion Leader 1, 2, and 3 positions. Summer Inclusion Coordinator will ensure the safety and confidentiality of all participants, take attendance, and perform program set up and take downs. Hours of work will vary from 0-40 hours a week, and may include evenings, weekdays, and weekends.

Minimum Requirements

•    Diploma/degree or currently enrolled in Special Education, Human Services, Recreation, or combination of education and experience related to working with people with disabilities.
•    Criminal Records Clearance
•    Valid BC Class 4 Driver’s License, or willingness to obtain
•    Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
•    Class 5 driver’s license, willingness to obtain Class 4 drivers license.
•    High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
•    Food Safe
•    Non-violent crisis intervention
•    Other Education or Training surrounding Divers abilities
•    Minimum of three years’ experience working directly with populations who have diverse abilities in integrated settings
•    Experience in supervising staff and volunteers
•    Have a strong commitment to professionalism
•    Experience in program planning or working in a recreation setting
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Sound decision-making skills, self-direction and working effectively with the public are essential.

Wage range is between $28.75 and $33.00 per hour, depending on experience.  Hours of work are between 10-20 hours from April 29th to May 17th; then 40 hours/week from May 21st to August 30th; hours range between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm.
