Description
The Learn to Ride Safe Bicycle program teaches bicycle safety and etiquette to grade three students in Saskatoon. The program includes training and certification as CAN-BIKE Skills II cyclists and Kids CAN-BIKE for instructors through Saskatchewan Cycling Association. Instructors visit elementary schools to conduct training at pre registered classrooms throughout May and June.
The role of the instructor is to educate kids to safely cycle in Saskatoon. This program is a fun, fast paced, unique opportunity to get experience instructing students in both a classroom and outdoor setting. By sharing the LTRS program, you are helping kids develop lifelong safe cycling habits. Instructors will present the theory portion in the school classroom and the outdoor portion with the students in the school yard. Resources such as access PowerPoint instruction presentation, videos and other resources are provided by On Purpose. There are opportunities for additional work through to September for students.
Candidate Requirements:
Be between ages 19 and 30 years oaf age as of April 30, 2024.
- Available for training and certification on April 30 and May 1.
- Available to teach during school hours (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) in Saskatoon elementary schools
between May 2 to June 28 (weekdays only).
- Successfully complete the CAN-BIKE Skills II and Kids CAN-BIKE Instructor certification courses
(training provided).
- Have a safe bicycle and helmet.
- Willing to accept additional responsibilities for tasks during weather issues or other related
days when schools are not open.
- First aid certification is an asset.
- Successful candidate may be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Experience with instructing children is preferred, but not required.
