Organization Description:

The Jericho Arts Centre is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The theatre offers a 135-seat performance arts centre for the visual and performing arts which is accessible to the local community. The Jericho Arts Centre is recognized for hosting high-end productions for community theatre.

Job Description:

This is a part-time position on 12 month contract with renewal upon mutual agreement. Opportunities exist for additional work with production companies in the theatre. The role of the manager is two-fold: to maintain the technical fabric of the theatre and to manage the transitions between show production companies. Shows can run from 1 day to 4 weeks, often with one week’s load-in. Volunteers may also be brought in to help with transitions. A database of volunteers is maintained at the Centre. The manager is expected to work under minimal supervision from FoJACS.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities for the manager are:
Technical fabric
Maintain of Light, Sound, Fogging and other equipment
Schedule equipment maintenance
Oversee crews to strip grid trimming the lights
Stock maintenance: cable repair, supply of fog juice, Gel box
Repairing racks and organizing storage, as needed
Updating maintenance task job list
Maintain a list of job activities
Provide necessary updates to the FOJACS calendar (available online)

Production company transition
Contact Guest Companies in advance to anticipate and guide their production requirements
Attend production meetings for incoming companies
Schedule strikes, seating configuration changes, light hanging, set building, etc to create efficient transitions between companies
Maintain the theatre equipment between companies
Organize volunteers
Oversee garbage disposal between shows (We call a junk removal company)
Assist incoming companies with lighting hang and sound preparation
Liaise with incoming and outgoing production companies, including providing safety guidance
Oversee handover between companies

Qualifications:

Required Skills
Basic carpentry and electrical experience
Working knowledge of lighting systems and sound systems
Good communication skills
Good record keeping skills
Knowledge of common theatre software such as Q Lab
People skills and patience

Remuneration:

The Job offers an honorarium of $1000/month for a basic minimum of 40 hours/month. (We are hoping to increase this amount in the future.) It will be possible to negotiate contracts as Technical Director for visiting guest companies in order to add to this honorarium.
