About the role

We’re looking for a Legal Claims Assistant I to join our growing team!

What you’ll do here:

• Setting up new files in our online system, drafting correspondence, court documents, briefing files and ultimately closing files.
• Scheduling examination tor discovery, examinations under oath, mediations, meetings and various hearings at court.
• Maintaining Legal Counsel's calendar, supervising their practice and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Word processing, electronic filing and general office duties.
• Accomplishing your key responsibilities.
• Provide administrative support such as scheduling meetings, photocopying, drafting correspondence, preparing pleadings, creating and updating trial binders, etc.
• Implement an effective diary system to help manage the lawyer's practice.
• Partners with assigned lawyers in managing workflow, monitoring calendars and meeting various deadlines.
• Support clients to schedule appointments; exchange and obtain information and communicate case progress.
• Review and manage documents with software programs.

What you bring to the table:

• College diploma and/or university degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or a Legal Assistant Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
• At least three years of experience working as a legal assistant/ in the legal industry, preferably within an insurance defence or personal injury law firm with a solid background in litigation.
• Working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
• Strong document management skills with the ability to learn and utilize Intact's various software programs, including iManage. Citrix, ACL and Outlook.
• Excellent attention to detail and sound proofreading skills.
• Ability to prioritize and organize.
• Effective customer service skills.
• Excellent communication, listening, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and an ability to work within a team dynamic.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and take initiative.
• Demonstrate a disciplined approach to work.
• Intermediate knowledge levels of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.

• No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
