Job description
Based in Edmonton, AB and reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Manager will be accountable for the implementation of Civeo’s Corporate Communications Strategy. As “Chief Storyteller,” the Communications Manager will deliver timely, accurate, and engaging information relevant to the interests of the company’s various stakeholders, including employees, clients, guests, communities, and the media.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Communications
- Establish a multi-channel content platform that reaches all employees, including frontline “deskless” staff.
- Produce a regular cadence of employee news and updates published across platform channels with a focus on cultivating a positive work environment and strong company culture.
- Launch a semi-annual employee “Pulse” survey to help inform the focus of the employee communications plan and editorial calendar.
- Assist with executive messaging and presentations for periodic updates and employee town hall meetings.
- Provide employee onboarding support and ongoing awareness for Civeo’s Corporate Communications policies and procedures.
Guest Communications
- Provide support to frontline lodge operations for the drafting and circulation of formal guest notices, updates, and information campaigns.
Social Media
- Build and manage Civeo’s social media presence in support of B2B lead generation and HR recruitment objectives, leveraging the Content Marketing Program and value narratives.
Media Relations
- Proactively network with industry media, soliciting opportunities to position Civeo for emerging editorial and unpaid exposure.
- Manage all inbound media inquiries, collaborating with Civeo executive and approved spokespeople to coordinate a response where necessary.
- Perform daily media monitoring for mentions of Civeo.
- Participate in the curation of a daily media monitor bulletin to track market and regulatory news that may be useful in making informed decisions about our business development strategy.
- Implement media training for all approved spokespeople and subject matter experts.
Crisis Communications & Readiness
Maintain an active role on the Incident Management Team (Communications Section Chief), managing all internal and external communications during crisis events
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS
Education/Certifications/Licenses/Designations
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience
- At least five (5) years of progressive experience in a corporate communications, media, or public relations role.
- Experience advising executive teams and senior leadership on corporate communications strategy and tactical messaging.
- Demonstrated experience developing editorial-style content in both written and video formats.
- Experience in crisis communications would be considered an asset.
- Experience conducting on-camera, in-person interviews.
- Experience working with social media and publishing platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Hootsuite (or similar CMS applications).
- Experience providing direction to creative services professionals including graphic designers, photographers, and videographers.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
Competency Requirements
- Strong knowledge of communications/journalism best practices.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a focus on editorial short-form storytelling.
- Exceptional attention to detail, especially as it relates to writing structure, grammar, proofing, and editing.
- Solid project management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Comfortable working independently to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong presentation skills in small and large group environments.
- Ability to adapt interpersonal style to suit different people or situations.
- Willingness to travel.
While not essential for this role, the following competencies would position a candidate favourably for consideration:
- Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing in both English and French.
- An understanding of the video production process.
