Research Assistant
Location: 1 Jim Flaherty St., Whitby, ON
Assignment: 8 weeks (30 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $17.50/hour
Position 1: May 21, 2024 to July 12, 2024
Position 2: June 24, 2024 to August 16, 2024

The Position: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Research and Program Evaluation, the Research Assistant will assist with research-related activities.
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Eligibility: - Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*;
- Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- International students are not eligible. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
Responsibilities: - Assist with research-related activities that may include conducting reviews of literature, data collection, data analysis, preparing ethics applications, and creating knowledge translation materials. Research topics may include community inclusion, exercise and quality of life for people with disabilities & older adults, family & youth recreation, community engagement, and need assessment for people with disabilities
- Cultivate a member-centered environment through exceptional customer service
- Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, volunteers and, community partners
- Foster a work environment that values and encourages teamwork and empowerment
Qualifications: - University or college program (undergraduate/graduate) in physical education / recreation / kinesiology / disability studies / education / psychology / health sciences or other related fields
- Required: Current, clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector
- Work and/or Volunteer experience an asset
- Knowledge of inclusion, accessibility, and accommodation an asset
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
- Ability to function equally well independently and as part of an effective team
