About the opportunity:
The Technical Regulatory Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership and specialized knowledge in Canadian Food & Labeling Regulations for all Lactalis business divisions Branded, Private Label, Food Service, and Imports. The position manages the Technical Sales & System resources, ensuring business directives meet the requirements of external & internal systems. Leads the planning and continuous improvement of internal product documentation specific to raw materials, packaging, product specifications, formulations, and R&D internal databases. The position requires communication with external customer contacts including Lactalis International Import designates and with Lactalis Canada Leadership, R&D, QFS, Marketing, Sales, and Innovation & Technical Regulatory to execute existing and new business directives in support of company quality standards, business development and continued product sales.
The attributes we are looking for:
· Provide technical regulatory leadership and expert knowledge in Federal and provincial Regulations to support existing and new business initiatives including Imports. Accountable to ensure all activities are compliant to regulatory requirements and provide recommendation on issues related to compliance and/or proprietary disclosure risk.
· Expert knowledge in Federal and Provincial Regulations
o Safe Foods for Canadians Act and Regulations
o Canada Food & Drug Act and Regulations
o Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Regulations
o Food Labelling & Nutritional Compliance as well as other and new government initiatives
· Manage the Technical Sales & System resources by coordinating, planning, and setting priorities to execute Branded, Private Label, Food Service and Lactalis contacts. Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with external customer systems and Lactalis system requirements.
· Responsible for writing/reviewing products specifications and reviewing advertisements when marketing support is engaged.
· Deliver plans to effectively lead the continuous improvement of Lactalis raw materials & product specifications systems.
· Provide leadership and execution of approval on raw material and/or product label requirements in support of existing and new Lactalis business initiatives.
· Lead continuous improvement of internal proprietary documentation and systems to deliver on regulatory requirements and good business standards.

· Assess new regulatory initiatives or CFIA related labeling issue and collaborate with Lactalis R&D, QFS, Innovation & Regulatory on recommendation and determine impact to current products and System resource deliverables.
· Provide leadership and supervision to staff by hiring, reviewing performance, and providing feedback. Provide training to new R&D and/or Quality employees to ensure basic knowledge in the interpretation of the Federal & Provincial Food and Labelling Regulations.
· Responsible for ensuring Quality is fundamental in execution of all work activities and work in compliance with Quality System Lactalis (e.g. QSL).
What you will bring:
· University degree in Food Science, or related discipline
· Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in food industry and minimum 5 years in dairy industry
· Fluent in French and English is an asset.
· Expert knowledge of Canadian Regulations
· Leadership capabilities including ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to lead initiatives and team members. Ability to work cross functionally and develop rapport with all levels of the organization including Leadership members in R&D, QFS, and Marketing.
· Strong analytical skills and good judgment; high degree of integrity. Ability to apply regulatory knowledge and strategic thinking to improve processes and develop new methods to enhance capabilities in support of business deliverables.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills including meeting facilitation and presentations. Ability to clearly articulate, and ability to present and communicate position in both written and oral forms.
· Strong influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to reach mutually acceptable resolutions.
· Ability to work in unstructured environments and to multi-task, with good process orientation.
· Good knowledge of the dairy product components and their functionality as well as a solid understanding of GMP’s and HACCP specifically in a food production environment.
· Ability to operate standard office applications such as Microsoft Office and SAP.
