The Principal Engineer Civil Structural will be responsible for providing consultation that supports design activities with GEH new plant development. This position will provide the technical coordination for the plant layouts, seismic analysis, Soil-Structure Interaction, and construction drawings, utilizing engineering analysis and design tools such as ANSYS-APDL, SASSI, Mathcad, for the development and detailed design of complete systems and building structures.
This position will provide technical guidance to design engineers on the GEH engineering staff and external engineering partners.
Additional responsibilities will include:
• Performance of design
• Special purpose reviews
• Coordination of design review boards
• Acting as the technical liaison in this subject area between the GEH design staff and our external design partners.
• Provide overall guidance on the analysis and design of the NPP SSC to meet different regulatory bodies
• Coordinate and solve coordination interfaces.
• Help support the SSI analysis and support SSCs seismic analysis and design.
• Advance the design to detailed design phase
• Review and coordinate detailed construction drawings with internal and external stakeholders
• Coordinate constructability review with internal and external stake holders
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
As the Principal Engineer Civil Structure, you will:
- Report solid line to the Civil Structural Engineering Manager.
- Own and be accountable for providing technical guidance on the GEH new plant standard plant layout and applications of such to customer’s site-specific requirements, and regulatory requirements specific to the nuclear industry.
- Work closely with the discipline assigned Lead System Engineers (Principal or Senior Engineers) to perform plant design, plant layout, commodity interference resolution and system design.
- Ensure that the necessary design intent/requirements are captured and documented.
- Work closely with the 3D Designers (internal and external) to ensure the individual equipment/ component models, assemblies of models and overall plant layout using 3D modeling software is performed in accordance with procedures.
- Oversee and/or perform 3D model interference resolution, space control and design studies as required.
- Act as a technical liaison with customers, partner organizations and suppliers as necessary and in close partnership/coordination with Product Development and Project Delivery leaders
- Work collaboratively across teams to drive design to cost (DTC) to produce a cost-effective risk informed design.
- Ensure adherence to GEH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance
- Be accountable for on-time delivery of design products within budget
- Streamline, integrate and develop team technical information sharing processes across GEH and its partners to better support business through application of Lean principles
- Partner with business teams and present product/program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leads across GEH.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD degree in structural engineering Discipline or similar
- Professional Engineer registration in one or more state
- Minimum 15 years direct experience in the nuclear industry
- Minimum of 10 years of direct design, development and deployment experience of power plants for complex, high reliability, and harsh environment or similar facilities in the power, process, marine industries.
