A leading development and Real Estate company in Edmonton has an immediate need for a designated Controller.
Your new role
- Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Developing the team and improving their performance through coaching and feedback loop.
- Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy .
- Overseeing the operations of the transactional accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the company’s goals and objectives.
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
- Overseeing and preparing internal and external financial statements along with the required working papers
- Managing the month and year-end book closing and account reconciliations, and tightening the deadlines.
- Coordinating activities of external auditors.
- Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.
- Evolving current accounting operations to manage the growth of the organization in an efficient and effective manner.
- Maintaining the chart of accounts and internal control systems over accounting transactions.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently, including tax planning and compliance.
- Staying abreast of financial related practices, trends, political/regulatory activities, and competitive economic changes which may affect the ability of the team to meet objectives.
- Approval of payments in online banking, including tax and payroll payments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to succeed
- At least five years in a management role.
- A CPA designation.
- Possess deep knowledge of accounting principles.
- Possess broad knowledge of income and excise tax rules.
- Exposure to end-to-end Finance function.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills across large and diverse business and ability to recruit and develop a high-performing team.
- Influential personality to drive results and facilitate the growth of a profitable business.
- Proven track record in project cost accounting and reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in internal controls and processes is required.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Desire for continuing education and personal development.
- Experience in managing a multi-level and multi-companies in different jurisdictions.
- Experience in change management.
- Working experience in Power BI, Synapse and/or Power Query.
- Working experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
