The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an opening for a Pottery Technician l to oversee the operations of the pottery studio in the Gleneagles Community Centre. This position supervises, assigns, schedules and participates in work related to day-to-day studio operations, including kiln firings, glaze creation, drop-in sessions, ordering of supplies, and organization and cleaning of the studio
This position will be responsible for:
- Loading and unloading kilns and overseeing firings
- Mixing a variety of glazes according to established procedures
- Overseeing operations of the Pottery Studio during drop-in sessions
- Organize the studio, receive and order store supplies and perform general clean-up
- Ensuring that proper safety precautions are observed
- Perform related work as required
The preferred candidate will possess sound knowledge of kiln operation procedures and related safety precautions; procedures for mixing glazes; operation and organization of a pottery studio. Ability to oversee and assist in the organization and maintenance of the studio to ensure that it is clean, orderly and safe; and the ability to coordinate the ordering, receipt and storage of supplies
The successful candidate has completed Grade 12 and has directly related experience and training as a pottery technician, or an equivalent combination of training and experience and is required to supply a Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials

$26.66 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
This position has a pay structure with two steps which increase annually.
