What can I expect to do in this role?
Research and Program Support
• Participates as a team member to improve the delivery of programs and services for Ontarians.
• Determines methods to acquire the knowledge and/or information requested by the team.
• Conducts research, summarizes findings, and prepares papers, reports and recommendations to improve program efficiencies.
• Reviews the quality and accessibility of publicly-available program information, and highlights observations.
• Participates in the development of standards, processes, methods, benchmark techniques and performance measures to support the delivery of programs and services to stakeholders.
• Works in a team-based environment on special projects, working groups, task forces, and project-planning and implementation activities related to research, needs assessments and service delivery.
Program Analysis
• Analyzes program/service information and data, and identifies trends to support the team in the development of evidence-based findings and recommendations.
• Conducts risk assessments and program evaluation to assist in developing options for program improvements.
• Analyzes current service delivery processes, reviews the efficiencies, merits and weaknesses of programs and services.
• Assesses the impact of new, revised or proposed processes on program delivery or services within the organization.
• Assesses the achievement of programs and services to meet established operational goals and service standards.
Stakeholder Consultation and Liaison
• Participates in consultations with program stakeholders to support quality services and improve customer satisfaction.
• Consults with program managers, ministry staff, stakeholders and/or other jurisdictions, to discuss service functions, business practices and related processes.
• Consults with stakeholders to obtain input on program and service delivery initiatives, and to gain feedback using surveys and process reviews.
Materials Preparation
• Assists with the preparation of briefing materials, planning documents and reports to support ongoing programs and services. Drafts materials to support proposed program and service delivery initiatives.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2019-August 2024).
• You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
• You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
Analytical and research skills
• You understand research and analytical practices to source and analyze a variety of information and data, as well as identify trends to support the development of evidence-based findings and recommendations.
• You can interpret and apply legislation, policies, processes and procedures.
Communication skills
• You can prepare and present various documents, including presentations, reports and summaries.
• You can clearly and concisely communicate information.
Interpersonal and teamwork skills
• You can establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
• You can participate and contribute to working groups.
Planning and organizational skills
• You are able to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines.
Computer skills
• You are proficient in common software applications such as word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications to draft documents and reports, prepare presentations and conduct analysis.
Collection of Information
The Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is designed to support Ontario's commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples across the province. Information collected for the IIP application will contribute to efforts in building a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible OPS and to provide you with an opportunity to complete an anonymous data survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and for analysis to identify any systemic barriers.
The personal information collected in this application is also necessary for the proper administration of the IIP and will be used for the purpose of validating your eligibility for the program. This competition, and the results from this competition, may also be used in identifiable format by designated representatives in the OPS for consideration of other opportunities in the OPS.
Personal information will be shared in an identifiable format with the OPS Indigenous Equity Branch exclusively for the purposes of tracking the enterprise-wide hiring and retention of Indigenous persons and assessing recruitment and retention priorities for Indigenous staff in the OPS.
