We are in search for a talented individual and Leader in Materials Management to join the growing team of our client in Toronto. Our Client is a a leading supplier of Automotive Injection Molding Components.

Materials Manager will Lead the activities of the Procurement, Planning and Warehouse teams to create a cohesive, coordinated flow of materials through the plant from customer forecast to shipping on time in full. They will manage raw, WIP and finished goods inventory to target levels. The role includes leading the Sales, Inventory and Operational Planning strategy in line with the financial objectives of the plant to ensure optimized utilization of equipment in support of upcoming and current customer demand.

Responsibilities

• Leads the Materials team through effective planning and execution of priorities to ensure that all manufacturing processes are prepared to execute the production schedule
on time satisfying all customer requirements OTIF.
• Oversees procurement team selection and development of all vendors, ensuring that all company requirements are met. These requirements include, but are not limited to,
competitive price, exceptional quality, exceptional delivery, and exceptional support service. Works closely with the Purchasing teams on achieving the same
requirements for global accounts and vendors.
• Negotiates or approves purchase agreements, vendor rebates, pricing, and terms to ensure all pricing, delivery, and quality targets are constantly met.
• Initiates and implements cost savings with vendors to ensure all cost saving targets are met or exceeded.
• Where vendor price increases are not able to be mitigated, ensures the closed loop internal process is comprehensively followed to pass on such price increases to customers
as defined in the applicable procedures.
• Maintains and enhances supply chain KPIs, reports, and business processes to ensure continuous improvements and reduction of non-value-added activities. Develops
effective countermeasures for recovery for metrics that are not on track.
• Participates in and supports the materials team in existing and new product planning processes to assure timely acquisition of materials to support on time product
manufacture and OTIF delivery to customer.
• Implements and manages effective systems and processes for production scheduling and planning which optimizes equipment utilization and set up reduction, to meet
customer and OTIF targets. Works expediently and with a controlled sense of urgency to overcome unplanned delays in schedule attainment and/or material delivery
and communicates to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Analyzes customer forecast and release data to support effective financial, capacity, and labour planning activities as well as identifies potential current and future constraints.
• Maintains and manages the capacity plan. Works with all relevant teams to ensure available equipment is optimized based on customer forecast and makes
recommendations for capital purchases with acceptable ROI in support of customer forecasts and planning volumes.
• Maintains raw material, work in process, and finished good stock levels and turns consistent with business requirements utilizing lean practices where appropriate while
meeting working capital target objectives. Initiates effective countermeasures when inventory values are trending in the wrong direction.
• Coordinates physical inventory and cycle counts and entry of same in accordance with established processes. Evaluates and reports significant inventory variances, identifies
root causes, and initiates corrective actions for inventory discrepancies.
• Ensures warehouse is organized, clean, and material storage locations are optimized. Creates plans for optimized material flow, implements them with the relevant teams.
• Ensures shipping team complies with all relevant import and export regulations and tariff controls.
• Ensures staff ability to safely operate material handling equipment to move materials/parts to and from different areas. Ensures staff adhere to all safety policies and
procedures.
• Manages premium freight to minimum levels by driving all associated costs back to the source and ensures costs are competitively minimized. Analyzes causes of additional f
freight costs and works with relevant departments to systemically reduce.
• Assists in the creation and management of department budgets for the Materials team.
• Works with HR to implement strategic plans for hiring, training, and developing team. Ensures performance appraisals are completed on time focusing on improving employee
personal and performance objectives.
• Promote and comply with safety standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices, and the observance of protective equipment for self and team at all t
times.
• Serve as mentor and coach to staff, helping develop them into the professionals we need to succeed.

Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years demonstrable experience leading a Materials or Production Control team or related teams to success across operational settings
• Automotive, Injection molding manufacturing environment experience
• Experience in IQMS - ERP System
• Managerial / Supervisory experience: Leadership, mentoring, training
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a materials or supply chain related function in the automotive industry.
• University or college degree, preferably in a manufacturing, supply chain, or business-related field. Equivalent years of experience would be considered as alternate.
• Working knowledge of materials management and MRP best practices
• Experience in materials and inventory planning, processes of planning/scheduling, metrics, ERP outputs and managing projects, capacity planning and management, and i
inventory management.
• Sales and Inventory Operational Planning experience is essential. Strong financial understanding in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong negotiation skills
• Exceptional MS Office working knowledge, primarily excel. Ability to develop effective forms, procedures, process flows, spreadsheets, analytical reports and metrics.
• Lean manufacturing working knowledge of principles and tools. Able to utilize lean concepts to improve material flow, reduce waste and optimize processes.
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong proven hands-on leadership skills, ability to mentor, coach, and motivate staff and all team members.
