Prosperity Workforce Solutions is currently searching for a Director of Care for one of their clients in long term care. The Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for management of the Resident Care Services within the facility. They will ensure the assessment planning implementation and evaluation of the overall operation of the Nursing /Care Department in accordance with current applicable federal provincial and regional standards guidelines and regulations and works within their practice statement competencies and conduct as defined by the Health Professions Act or other relevant legislation and governing professional organizations to ensure that the highest standard of resident care is delivered and maintained at all times.
This role is a key position that promotes an environment that demonstrates guiding principles of Trust Respect Quality and Teamwork and encourages practices that respect resident family and staff rights individuality and diversity. As a Registered Nurse (RN) they are responsible and accountable to the public for their own standard of practice under the regulation of the professional body.
Within the scope of this position the DOC takes on a key role to continually provide quality of care and an environment promoting a culture of resident safety and freedom from harm and injury.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Residents & Services : to plan coordinate delegate and evaluate all aspects of the provision of facility nursing care and services to the residents within the Provincial Continuing Care Health Service Standards. (In collaboration with AHS RN Care Manager in Supportive Living)
- Provides guidance and direction to all facility nursing management and staff to attain and maintain safe quality care
- Receives reviews manages all incidents. Reviews trends on incidents and develops plan of action to ensure corrective action with a focus on prevention of future incidents
- Ensures allegations of abuse investigation processes are completed within timelines for responses
Employees & Partners : accountable for leadership that ensures and sustains an atmosphere of safe quality resident and family centered care
- Conducts at a minimum monthly meetings to support and enable effective communication
- Maintains high expectations of all team members to ensure that an excellent standard of care and nursing practice is achieved
- Actively participates in the development implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
- Accountable for the efficient operations and the ongoing performance management of the nursing team
- Coaches and mentors facility nurse managers to assist in the management of multiple priorities using critical thinking skills to solve complex resident/family issues and concerns
- Recruits selects and facilitates the orientation of qualified care team members to ensure a full staff complement is maintained
Finance & Accountability: adheres to the facility operational plan and annual budget
- Participates and collaborates with management team in operational/budget planning sessions
- Monitors expenditures to meet care needs within budget allocations
- Responsible to ensure accountabilities are met for care staff hours as per contractual requirements
Quality Improvement : accountable for the planning implementation and evaluation of safe quality resident care & services
- Participates in the Total Quality Management Program (TQM)Completes monthly quarterly and annual evaluations indicator reports/audits as directed
- Ensures site Critical Incidents and Provincial Reportable Incidents are documented reported and followedup appropriately
- Documents and investigates resident/family concerns related to resident care
- Participates in Accreditation
Resident Safety
- Performs all duties in a manner in which resident safety is the focus
- Reports any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a resident
- Educates other coworkers / colleagues on the proper safety techniques when there is a possibility of endangering a resident
- Observes and correct any unsafe behavior demonstrated by residents
Qualifications
Education / Designation Requirements :
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing required. Masters degree in a healthcare discipline an asset
- Registered or eligible for registration with The College and Association of Registered Nurses within the province of practice
Experience
- At minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role with demonstrated excellence in management leadership clinical judgment and interpersonal skills
- Experience within a Long Term Care setting an asset.
- Knowledge of computer software
