Van Route Driver

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY
The Van Route Driver is supervised by the Director of Custom Cleaning / Fleet Maintenance and provides support to all departments within Business Services as needed. Primary responsibilities are in the Transportation Department and Senior Mobile Meals. Responsibilities include transporting day program participants to and from program, driving Senior Mobile Meals routes, and picking up meal deliveries.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Transportation
Transport Day Habilitation participants to and from program as assigned.
Maintain order among passengers, enforce all rules and provide assistance to passengers entering and/or leaving the van as needed.
Report vehicle maintenance and repair issues to Director of Custom Cleaning / Fleet Maintenance.
Report any and all scheduling and passenger changes to Custom Cleaning / Fleet Maintenance as well as any specific problems or needs encountered with passengers.
Operate agency vehicles safely in compliance with New York State Motor Vehicle and traffic laws and agency vehicle operation policies.
Report accidents to manager.
Perform everyday maintenance check on assigned vehicle and log into the Pre-Trip Inspection Form.
Maintain all vehicle and passenger logs.


Senior Mobile Meals
Drive assigned Home Delivered Meal routes.
Pick up weekly meal order, load and unload into designated freezer(s). Operate pallet jack.
Assist with kitchen operations as needed; food packaging, meal packing, loading and unloading vehicles.


Facilities Maintenance
Assist Facilities Maintenance with summer lawn care and landscaping of the main office property. Assist Facilities Maintenance team with winter snow removal and maintenance of walkways at all facilities.
Assist Facilities Maintenance staff with office and residential moves and building inspections as assigned.


Custom Cleaning
Transport night shift staff to the FDR Library as needed.


Health, Safety, & Compliance
Maintain all site operations in conformity with specified certification criteria and Health Department regulations. Ensure compliance with OPWDD, OFA, and any other organization or government agency as required
Actively participate in health and safety practices and accident avoidance
Maintain a work environment in a clean, organized, and safe manner. Conduct everyday inspections of work areas to look for unsafe conditions
Ensure all accidents are reported to manager and Human Resources
Maintain practices to ensure Health and Safety compliance
Use all required safety devices and personal protective equipment.

Maintain a clean and neat appearance and act as a function model
Attend all required meetings and trainings
Participate in training programs for professional growth as scheduled and approved
Responsible for knowledge and adhering to Gateway Hudson Valley's Corporate Compliance Policy and Standards of Conduct as well as all applicable program rules, regulations and policies. Keep abreast of any changes or modifications to policies or regulations.
Perform other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


suitable education
High School Diploma or Equivalent


practice:
One (1) year of driving practice


Licenses / Certifications:
Valid NYS Driver's License

REGULATORY CLEARANCES REQUIRED
Must have a valid NYS Driver's License and maintain a driving record which meets the insurable criteria of the Agency's automobile insurance carrier
Must have a favorable result from all state, federal, and agency mandated background checks
