ASSISTANT MANAGER, PAYROLL

The opportunity

As a key member of a results-driven, high performance team, you provide assistance in the management and coordination of all aspects of payroll function to ensure accurate and timely payment of employee wages, pension, benefits and payroll taxes. You work closely with various departments at BC Ferries by providing subject matter expertise for emerging issues and new initiatives. 

 

You play a key role in the development and implementation of policies, objectives and strategic goals for the department, ensuring effectiveness of internal controls, keeping current with developments in payroll process, technology and relevant legislation.

 

What you bring to the team

You are a designated Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) under the National Payroll Institute and are enrolled in or have completed the Certified Payroll Management (CPM) program. A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or other related field considered an asset. You have a minimum of 4 to 6 years’ payroll experience in a complex computerized payroll environment, extensive knowledge of payroll practices, as well as a minimum of 3 years’ training and supervisory experience.

 

Your enthusiasm for your team’s success is apparent in your ability to lead, coach and motivate. You are a strong communicator and an analytical thinker who ensures accuracy in the details. You are well organized, and can effectively prioritize tasks, while meeting strict, often conflicting deadlines.

Additional information

The target salary range: $75,100 - $93,800 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
