Job description


The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW) is a non-profit, environmental organization. We are seeking to hire 2 Environmental Technicians based out of Swift Current, Saskatchewan to join our team.  This is a 2-year contract position, renewing each year. The position runs from May to August each year.The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Western Saskatchewan and will have general knowledge regarding the fields of ecology and/or biology. Successful candidates will be assisting with the delivery of a fish Species at Risk assessment and habitat enhancement program focusing on Plains Minnow (Hybognathus placitus) and Plains Sucker (Pantosteus Jordani).Key responsibilities include: Working with SAW staff to support the implementation of a Fish Species at Risk assessment and enhancement program in southwest Saskatchewan, including Assisting the project manager in completing Plains Minnow and Plains Sucker species distribution surveys at Lodge Creek, Battle Creek, Morgan Creek, Rock Creek and the Frenchman River via beach seine hauls or electrofishing.
Conducting riparian health surveys and assessments along Lodge Creek, Battle Creek, Morgan Creek, Rock Creek, and the Frenchman River.Implementing shoreline enhancement and restoration projects by planting native tree/shrub species to restore or enhance riparian areas and improve habitat.Assisting the project manager in planning, designing, preparing, and implementing 2 spawning riffles in the Frenchman River for Plains Sucker.Engaging with stakeholders including landowners and indigenous communities to build and maintain relationships for the purpose of species at risk education, site access, and enhancement project implementation.Increasing the publics knowledge and awareness about Plains Minnow and Plains Sucker stewardship, resiliency, and risks to sustainability. Collaborating with provincial (Ministry of Environment, Water Security Agency) and Federal (Fisheries and Oceans Canada)
