Khalsa Secondary School is seeking candidates for two English and Social Studies (Humanities) positions.

Khalsa Secondary School is a faith-based school located on 10589 124 Street. Academic teachers do not have to be observers of the faith. Teachers from all diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply! We have just become an IB ( (MYP candidacy school starting September 2023 and have been approved for AP Level 2. We are a growing school with a lot of opportunities! Our teachers are supported, have their own classroom and have a prep in each semester.

Currently, we have 2 Humanities openings for the new 2023-2024 school year starting August 30, 2023. We recognize North American teaching experience. Please indicate in your resume and cover letter which position number you would like to be considered for. For early applicants, there may be some ability to shift courses from one position to another.

If you are looking for a classroom of your own for Fall 2023, we have the following four Humanities positions open:

Position 1: Junior English position

Start Date: September 1, 2023 (August 30, 31 are in lieu Pro-D days)

• Humanities 8 - Yearlong - 2 blocks
• Humanities 9 - Yearlong - 2 blocks

Position 2: Career Education and English Position

Start Date: September 1, 2023

• Career Life Education 10 - 3 blocks
• Exploration in Social Studies 11 - 1 block
• Creative Writing 10 - 1 block
• Creating Writing 11 - 1 block
• Social Studies 10 - 2 blocks

Salary: Starting salary of $58,000/year (over 10 months) - Only offered to CoQ teachers or teachers who have a completed application with the Teacher Certification Branch for a CoQ or Subject Restricted Certificate (in the appropriate teaching areas). Teaching experience in Canada is recognized for a possible higher salary for certified teachers.

Qualification Requirements:

• Valid Teaching Certification in BC (Teaching certificates in other Canadian provinces and territories are acceptable as long as an application has been completed for a BC Teaching Certificate). Special attention will be given to applicants who are certified to or can be certified to teach in BC
• You must be eligible to be employed in Canada.
• Ability to work full time
• Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty required.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons including the needs and abilities of students with special needs
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, colleagues and parents required
• Excellent communication skills, both oral written required

Khalsa School in a Sikh school and a pat of the student's education at our schools include education in the Sikh Faith (Sikh music, history, scriptures). However, these subjects are taught by our religious department and staff. Successful applicants will only be required to teach the BC Curriculum. Teaching experience at our fine institution is recognized by BC public school districts.
