As part of the Distribution Technical Services team, the Engineer is part of a team that provides technical support to Distribution System Operations and Field Engineering for all aspects of Distribution Engineering (Protection & Coordination, T&D Metering, Distribution Planning, Standards and Work Methods, Distribution SCADA / Automation).

The Engineer is responsible for the development, approval and implementation of Distribution Standards while providing technical support to all groups involved within Distribution in terms of material, construction designs, tools, equipment, PPE, work procedures.

Key functions include:

• Implement new/revised standards associated with construction, work practices, and material ensuring they meet/exceed existing national standards and/or provincial regulations. This involves working with manufacturers, trades, material warehouse, and Engineers to seek final approval.

• Design/review construction standards confirming compliance with CSA Standard (Overhead and Underground). Responsible to design/approve all Grade 1 construction around the province such as, but not limited to, crossings involving railways, limited-access highways, and navigable water. This will involve working with software and developing relationships with field Engineers, trades, and communication partners. May involve working with GIS Technicians to update designs.

• Review defective material, tools, equipment, and safety incidents that occur on the Distribution System. This will involve working closely with the field, manufacturer(s), material warehouse, and/or Safety Officers to ensure appropriate solutions.

The ideal teammate will have:

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

• Three years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Utility Construction Standards, and associated material and equipment

- Construction design software such as SpidaCalc and/or PLS-CADD

- Drafting software

- Validating and testing strength of material as part of review and selection process

- Understanding of National Standards and local regulations

- Analyzing costs/specifications associated with design/material of related projects

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
