Job Description
We are looking for a Thermal Electrical Component Simulation Engineer to join us! In this role, you will be a key figure in guiding our design teams through the complexities of thermal management for electrical components and systems. Your expertise will ensure that our battery systems, cooling circuits, EDMs, and other electrical components meet their functional objectives without compromising on performance due to thermal constraints.
Missions:
- Provide technical guidance to design teams, integrating seamlessly into the development process to ensure optimal thermal management across various components.
- Utilize both commercial and internal analysis tools to evaluate the thermal performance of batteries, cooling circuits, EDMs, and other electrical systems, ensuring they meet specified functional objectives.
- Design and size internal cooling systems, ensuring operational temperatures remain within set targets and limits, considering material properties, environmental conditions, and performance requirements.
- Develop 0D/1D thermal models from CAD designs and functional specifications, encompassing a range of applications from battery electric thermal models to cooling circuits for electrified propulsion systems.
- Conduct thermal analysis for high, medium, and low voltage battery systems and cables, including the development of thermal models for EDMs, sizing of coolant pumps and heat exchangers, and simulation of cooling control logic.
- Innovate in thermal architecture and management solutions, converting detailed models to faster-running equivalents for integrated system simulations.
- Analyze simulation results, providing clear conclusions through oral presentations and written reports to stakeholders, including chief engineers and powertrain management.
- Lead in the training of team members in electrical component thermal modeling, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedure documentation, ensuring best practices in thermal simulation and analysis are well documented and accessible.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, with a specialization in computational fluid dynamics, combustion, or heat transfer.
- In-depth knowledge of automotive engine, transmission, or drivetrain requirements and functionalities.
- Proven experience in powertrain virtual analysis using commercial simulation tools such as AVL Excite or Gamma Technologies GT-Suite, demonstrating a strong capability in applying advanced modeling techniques to real-world challenges.
Additional Information
The position is based in Auburn Hills, MI. The candidate must be eligible to go work in the US.
