Job description
The Director of Development, reporting directly to the Executive Director, assumes a leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategic fundraising programs. These programs aim to drive growth, cultivate a robust donor pipeline, and foster deeper donor relationships.
Accountable to: Executive Director of OM Canada.
KEY RESULT AREAS
1. Strategic planning and Operational execution
Develop strategic plans and facilitate execution in order to ensure robust support for development activities and organizational goals
Core activities
- Through proven and innovative strategies, develop strategic and comprehensive annual fundraising plan(s)
- Develop and implement a short and long-term development plan to meet established fundraising goals and objectives
- Develop innovative partnerships with external ministries, churches, organizations, corporations, and people of influence to help to further the goals of OM
- Evaluate, strengthen and optimize donor engagement/experience
- Grow & expand strategies for increasing funding capacities
2. Fundraising
Cultivate and steward development opportunities and relationships in order to facilitate the consistent and sustainable achievement of financial goals
Core activities
- Lead and actively engage in stewardship of major and mid-level donors to foster positive and enduring relationships.
- Develop and oversee effective prospect management strategies to identify new funding and partnership opportunities.
- Develop strategies for existing donors to effectively move them through a meaningful cycle of giving
- Develop and lead innovative donor events that will allow Canadians to be informed and inspired to financially contribute to the ministries of OM
- Work collaboratively and creatively with the Marketing & Communications staff to appropriately position development opportunities and integrate messages in publications, grant submissions, reports, and collateral materials for cultivating and stewarding donors
3. Leadership
Lead the development team in order to support personal development and departmental sustainability
Core activities
- Support the Development staff and volunteers in areas of resourcing their efforts to engage Churches, institutions and individuals to resources the ministries of OM
- Develop and maintain departmental operating budget. Manage assigned responsibilities in keeping with budget plan and review and report on variances
- Set ambitious (and S.M.A.R.T.) goals for development staff including self and evaluate, monitor, encourage and mentor staff to achieve their respective goals
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all major fundraising activities & special projects and assist the Associate Director with assigned projects and with mass donor activity where needed
4. Ministry involvement
Ensure you are actively involved in team life at your location when possible, in order to ensure you are ministering to others and being ministered to.
Core activities
- Actively participate on a regular basis in team devotions, prayer times, meetings and social functions.
- Serve practically within the team to ensure whatever needs to be done is done well and the load is shared around.
- Seek to be an encouragement to your fellow team members.
5. Partner base development
Actively develop and maintain a prayer support base for your ministry with OM Canada, in order to resource your ministry and that of OM Canada with prayer resources.
Core activities
- Maintain regular contact with your prayer partners and sending church(es) - developing relationships that minister to them and further your partnership with them.
- Develop your prayer support base on a continual basis by asking individuals, groups and churches to join your support team as you have opportunity.
6. Safe working practices
Ensure work is carried out in accordance with written and verbal communicated internal and external safety, environmental and country specific legal regulation in order to ensure safe working practice.

- Ensure that both your own and the area you are working in is kept clean, orderly and safe.
- Ensure a safe and correct usage and adequate maintenance of used tools and equipment.
- Work in accordance with verbal and written communicated safety and environmental regulations and understand and know the risks and risk assessments related to your role and duties.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Experience working with volunteers
- CFRE designation an asset
Other requirements
- 5+ Years of senior leadership experience in the Canadian non-profit sector, ideally with a faith-based organization
- 3+ years of successful experience in Major Gift solicitation
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
- Hold a valid passport and able to travel abroad when required
- Technical competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet search engines
- Experience with CRM, data analytics, and donor databases

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
- Authorized to fulfil the core activities within the set guidelines, processes and procedures, without damaging the interest of OM Canada.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS
- Works either at head office or remotely
- Includes travel within Canada and internationally (30%)
TIME
- Full time position 35 hours a week.
