Job description
SUMMARY:
Reports to the teacher and provides assistance and support in the implementation of individual education programs for students with special needs. This position is supporting a French immersion program so the successful candidate must be fluent in written and speaking French.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 graduation and possession of a Special Education Teacher Assistant Certificate, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Completion of the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders Training on Autism Spectrum Disorders and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
- Completion of crosswalk supervision training.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English and the Second Language. Knowledge of second language culture desirable.
- Ability to be flexible to meet the varying academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of students.
- Survival First Aid Certificate desirable including sufficient medical knowledge to effectively cope with seizures.
- Ability to interact with students in an effective manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively using tact, discretion and diplomacy in contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.
- Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
- Working knowledge of behaviour management techniques and task analysis techniques.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Physical ability to perform the required duties.

Rate of pay: $31.91/hour plus and additional 14% in lieu of benefits (including vacation and stat holiday pay).
