Reporting to the Manager of Supportive Services, the Social Worker is an integral member of an interprofessional
team and provides a range of psychosocial services to patients and their families, which may include assessment,
brief solution orientated counselling, discharge/transition planning and linkage to community resources. The
successful candidate will practice within the Ontario College of Social Workers Service Workers standards, the
Mission Statement and the Code of Conduct of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The successful
candidate will provide services to the in patient Surgical/Neuro units
Applicants must have the following qualifications/experience:
* Honors Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW)
* Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and be in good
standing
* Minimum of 2 years experience in an acute care environment
In addition, applicants must have skill and abilities in the following elements of practice:
* Demonstrated knowledge of available community resources
* Excellent working knowledge of Consent and Capacity Legislation, Social Work Code of Ethics, Mental Health
Legislation and the Heath Care Consent Act
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self directed manner as well as collaboratively within an
interprofessional team
* Experience evaluating mental and emotional health, social, family and financial circumstances
* Ability to prioritize competing demands
* Displayed abilities in critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution
* Proven abilities to work well under stress and in a constantly changing environment
* Experience working with people at the end of life and in the setting of bereavement
Salary Range: $38.020 to 49.290
