Youth Worker Part-Time & Relief
Duties will include:
- Provides ongoing life skills support, and mentoring and provides access to direct services to address issues youth presently face (E.g. employment, family issues, life skills, shelter, hot meals, counseling, recreational activities, and clothing).
- Medication administration, monitoring, storage, and disposal (as required).
- Provides informal one-on-one counseling to the youth in the program.
- Advocates on the youth’s behalf and acts as a positive role model for youth.
- In the event of a crisis or critical incident, manages the situation to ensure the safety of all and immediately reports to the appropriate level.
- Oversees meal preparation and cleaning, performs some housework, light maintenance, and repair work, or arranges for additional service.
- Monitors health and safety of home, including ensuring maintenance and cleanliness of shared spaces.
- Enforces house rules, policies, and procedures.
- Responds to crises and other duties as required.
- Create and maintain a clean and welcoming environment for youth in care.
- Facilitate regular life skill programming that will build on the youth’s skills and prepare them for independence.
- Intake and discharge planning.
- Daily documentation such as case note documentation, report writing, and various other administrative duties as needed.
- Assist youth to access various community programs regarding school, health, housing, employment, etc.
- Maintain positive relationships and interact with various community partners including school boards, police services, child welfare agencies, neighbors, etc. professionally and respectfully.
- Positively contribute to 360°kids as an organization.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a Child/youth-related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
- Minimum of three years experience working with “at-risk” or street-involved youth.
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Suicide Prevention training, and assets.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
- Car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract, and $2M liability insurance required.
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of working with youth, including an understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g. CFSA).
- Demonstrated client-focused counseling skills and role modeling.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Will possess a broad knowledge of community resources and the ability to strongly advocate for clients and professional referrals.
