AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Division Chief of Apparatus and Maintenance, this position will be responsible for:

• the repair, maintenance, testing and inspection of the Fire Department fleet, equipment, buildings and property;
• adherence to documented department procedures;
• troubleshooting and accurately diagnosing problems;
• read and understand electrical, hydraulic and air brake schematics;
• efficiently complete all necessary work orders;
• maintain an awareness and understanding of current and emerging technologies; and
• perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

• Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary school education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education;
• Current truck and coach technician’s licence (310T);
• Current automotive service technician’s licence (310S);
• Must possess and maintain a valid, class “D” Ontario Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement;
• 5 years experience diagnosing and repairing problems on heavy vehicles and equipment;
• 5 years experience diagnosing and repairing problems on air and hydraulic systems;
• Demonstrated customer service skills including ability to provide technical guidance;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment;
• Demonstrated communications skills, both written and verbal;
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated organizational skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
• Must be able to lift and stand for extended periods of time;
• Must be willing and able to wear all required uniform clothing and/or protective equipment as assigned/ required.
• Experience with emergency vehicles, apparatus and equipment is an asset;
• Knowledge of Scott Breathing Apparatus and medical oxygen equipment is an asset;
• Knowledge and ability to perform SCBA functional testing, maintenance, repair and related fit testing is an asset;
• Knowledge of hydraulic pumps/systems is an asset;
• Welding and fabricating skills in aluminum and steel is an asset.
