Job Summary
The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility and grounds of the long term care home while keeping appropriate inventory and distributing goods for all departments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive, secure and distribute goods for all departments as per the established procedures.
- Secure all coinciding documentation and forwards to the appropriate department head.
- Order, maintain and control appropriate inventory as per established procedures.
- Store goods in a safe, tidy manner in designated storage areas.
- Clean the facility and grounds as per established schedule.
- Operate and maintain floor cleaning and other janitorial equipment.
- Clean walls, ceilings and windows as instructed.
- Clean ceiling fans and vents as instructed.
- Collect garbage and transport to collection bins.
- Collect recyclable material and transport to collection bins.
- Perform special project cleaning in designated areas.
- Set up and take down furniture for functions.
- Assist with moving of resident’s belongings.
- Assist the laundry operation as required.
- Respond to a facility fire alarm in accordance with the established Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma with relevant work experience.
- Ability to handle janitorial/cleaning equipment and tools.
- Strong time management skills, and the ability to plan and schedule tasks as appropriate.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Working Conditions
- Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.
Employment Conditions
- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, by the first day of employment.
- Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment.
