We are currently seeking an Experienced Corporate Department Legal Assistant for our Chilliwack office.
Previous Corporate Law experience is required, and previous experience with ALF would be preferred. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with our Corporate team, with a willingness to welcome our firm culture as it relates to a very high standard of quality, consistency, and distinction.
Baker Newby LLP has one of the largest assemblies of Corporate clients in the Fraser Valley, acting as the Registered Records office for over 2,200 companies. This cornerstone practice area for Baker Newby provides a deep and continuous flow of complex and engaging corporate transactions, in addition to cross-referral legal work for our other departments.
Working with other Paralegals and Legal Assistants, duties will include: Corporate reorganizations, corporate transactions including incorporations, share capital alterations, changes of name, amalgamations, continuations, restorations, wind-ups/ dissolutions, redemptions, repurchases, dividends, share transfers, allotments, change of Directors/Officers, change of Registered and Records Offices, rectifications of Records Books etc.
Preferred candidates will have 5+ years of experience, and excellent technical proficiency, as we continuously move towards more paperless practices. Any exposure to Amicus or ESILaw would also be considered an asset. A dedicated work ethic and strong attention to detail is paramount for the successful candidate.
While we are not able to offer any work-from-home arrangements for this full-time position, we are pleased to have recently completed a renovation project, to bring a more modern aesthetic to our workspaces, and offer sit-stand desks to our whole Corporate team, who collaborate together in a dedicated 5-member Corporate Department section of our office.
We can offer an attractive compensation package, inclusive of a Group RRSP matching program. Baker Newby LLP is well aware of the perception that Fraser Valley law firms may pay less than firms closer to downtown Vancouver. While we admit this may be true for some very junior positions, know that we are committed to offering very competitive salaries when considering experienced assistants and paralegals from outside of the Fraser Valley. We always try to balance future candidate’s financial expectations with the market salaries in the Fraser Valley, while also very much respecting comparable salaries of our existing long-term staff.
