Position Summary:
This position provides strategic direction and leadership in a region of the country covering multiple Distribution Centers (DCs).
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Act as a Leader to achieve Martin-Brower of Canada’s Goals and Objectives
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and support to DC management teams, set clear accountabilities and expectations in alignment with business goals, identify and remove obstacles to success, and drive a high performing team and culture
- Drive a safety culture focused on education, proactive risk management, loss prevention and accountability ensuring all employees and managers play a role in creating a safe and secure working environment
- Demonstrate teamwork and maintain a positive attitude
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the Company
- Grow and foster strong relationships with Customers
- Partner with HR, with the partnership involving all aspects of the operations to ensure people practices are aligned with the company culture and vision
- Foster an environment of positive employee relations and employee engagement
- Establish and support the DC management team to help maintain a positive working relationship with the Union Business Agent
- Participate in negotiation of the collective agreement
- Other projects or duties as assigned
Operations
- Oversee multiple DC operations teams to maximize team performance and achieve operational goals (on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis)
- Ensure that all compliance guidelines are adhered to by all departments to enhance safety, quality, and regulatory compliance standards
- Work with the national fleet and facilities teams to evaluate DC specific policies, procedures and equipment and ensure timely updating/replacing/improving as required
Financial Responsibilities
- Accountability for the achievement of the region’s operating financial goals and achieving budget targets
- Lead the strategy for capital expenditures in the region to maximize the Company’s asset investment to budget
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial analysis, with support from the finance team, detailing departmental goals identifying variances from budget, reasons for variances and necessary actions needed to reduce costs
Strategy
- Lead Canadian strategic initiatives included in the Annual Operations Plan
- Provide vision and strategic goals for the short and long-term success of the Operations team
Employee Management
- Work with leaders in ensuring robust Individual Development Plans are in place
- Develop succession for key roles in the organization
- Attend and participate in meetings with union/management, Managers, Health & Safety Committee as required
- Conduct performance reviews for DC Leaders recommending salary changes, developmental requirements, promotions etc.
Roles and Responsibilities in Martin Brower’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS)
- You will be responsible for taking part in the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) by holding yourself accountable and taking responsibility for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. You will also be accountable for working and acting in a way that promotes a safe and healthy work environment
- You will be responsible for reporting on the OHSMS metrics and performance of your team monthly to the Senior Leadership Team. You will also take responsibility and accountability for the prevention of work-related injury and illness and will provide safe and healthy workplaces and activities
- As a Regional General Manager, you must demonstrate leadership and commitment to the OHSMS by participating in, establishing and promoting health and safety committees. You will be responsible for promoting a culture throughout Martin-Brower that supports the intended outcomes of the OHSMS by developing leaders, protecting workers, ensuring that processes are in place for workers to participate in the OHSMS, and through consulting workers. You will also be responsible for ensuring that employees feel comfortable and safe reporting incidents, hazards, risks and opportunities
- You will take every reasonable precaution to ensure the workplace is safe. You will meet the core competencies of the job as outlined in the job description
- Ensure the operations follow all Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and Good Warehouse Practices (GWP)/Good Drivers Practices (GDP) for transport rules and regulations
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Engineering or Science or other related field
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in all areas of a high-volume, food service, unionized distribution, supply chain or logistics or manufacturing environment
- 6+ years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated positive and influential involvement with customers.
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong, interactive team player
- Integrative thinker and excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)
- High initiative, self-motivation, and strong leadership qualities
- Ability to produce accurate and timely reports
- Working knowledge of (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point etc.)
- Demonstrated role model with proven success in team development and performance management
- This position must pass a post-offer background check
