Job description:
Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire a motivated, experienced Manager, Platform Engineering to support our ongoing Guidewire Cloud transformation program. Experienced professionals with competency and knowledge in Guidewire implementations are being sought.
Accountabilities:
1. Domain Specific
- Expert in Guidewire with depth of knowledge within specific tech stacks (application languages,
- algorithms, database normalization, data structures, common tools)
- Coaches and influences engineering peers by pairing as needed to augment engineering proficiency and quality
- Relentlessly pursues upgrading skills and proficiency of team members
- Evaluates competencies, skills, and impact of product team engineers
- Coaches for design and simplification along with reuse of enterprise tools
- Co-owns and leads all incident responses and root cause management in partnership with Product Manager
- Participate in product scoping, discovery and framing, and inceptions providing technical input and helps translate user features into system design.
2. Strategic Direction
- Assists with settings the strategic direction for the function / span based on business goals and cascades goals and targets to teams.
- Facilitates functional technology strategy discussions with the leadership team and conceptualizes actions / initiatives and builds capabilities.
- Leads and participates in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the Product Manager
- Reviews team structure and aligns it to deliver on the strategy.
- Improves value creation and introduces new / expanded services as part of the growth strategy.
3. People Management
- Plans and monitors workforce needs and processes for the business area to decide on current and future hiring of direct reports and extended teams.
- Builds engagement by acting on employee feedback.
- Manages team members to accomplish results through effective recruitment, selection, work allocation, goal-setting, performance management, recognition, and employee engagement.
- Plans backups and skill building for critical roles; focuses team members to stay on course for future skills.
- Acts as a coach/mentor to groom the next line of leaders.
4. Systems / Process Innovation
- Encourages outcome-based technology innovation and invention in partnership with stakeholders.
- Replicates enterprise best practices and standards and explores ways to enhance the effectiveness of current systems and processes; oversees corrective actions until closure.
- Partners with stakeholders on the implementation of organizational process improvement initiatives.
- Implements policies and strategies to achieve functional short-term results (1 year or less).
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineer or equivalent
- 4+ years of hands-on software development experience with Guidewire
- Experience in ensuring ITSM ITIL Practices are followed such as Incident management, Problem Management, Change Management
- 2+ year of experience in leadership roles
- Experience practicing Agile development methodologies.
- Hands-on development proficiency in one of: Java, Gosu, ReactJS, C++, Python or one of these derivatives
- At least 1 full SDLC cycle (inception -> development -> post go live)
- P&C Insurance experience
- Experience with Guidewire enterprise technology implementation
- Guidewire certified (preferably ACE)
Bonus qualification:
- Understand Cloud Technologies and experience in leading Cloud programs
- Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum enabler technologies (Jira, Rally, GIT)
