Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our non-profit organization as an Accountant.
Responsibilities:
- Process suppliers invoices for inclusion in the Accounts Payable system on a daily basis, having regard for generally accepted accounting principles. Invoices have to be fully supported; amount and quantity matched with purchase order and receiving slips; supporting documents signed by authorized personnel.
- Maintain an efficient filing system for vendors/suppliers.
- Analyze expenses with significant increase from previous period.
- Run all accounts payable cheques. Schedule release of cheques as close to the term date as possible considering discounts and term of agreement (e.g. 2%
- discount, net 30 days, etc.).
- Prepare adjusting entries as required (e.g. petty cash replenishment, inventory adjustment, credit/debit note from vendors, etc.).
- Coordinate with purchasing and inventory personnel on accuracy of inventory. Assist in conducting physical count. Reconcile inventory balance on a regular basis.
- Maintain capital asset file and reconcile balance with books. Prepare amortization schedule.
- Prepare, analyze and reconcile G/L accounts (A/P, GST, insurance, prepaid accounts, accrued expenses, etc.).
- Prepare GST schedule for rebate and reconcile with G/L.
- Provide a monthly aged schedule of Accounts Payable.
- Reconcile Accounts Payable on a monthly basis paying very close attention to cut off procedures.
- Provide schedule and assistance in collecting outstanding customer accounts.
- Maintain customer files and supplier files on a current basis and orderly fashion.
- Prepare customer invoices as soon as possible after the jobs have been installed/completed.
- Record receipts from customers on a timely basis.
- Assist in generating monthly and yearly reports.
- Assist in completing year-end audit requirements.
- Develop a respectful and positive relationship with peers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education in Accounting and Finance is required.
- Minimum 2 years Accounting and Finance is preferred.
- Able to build strong working relationships.
- Able to work in a high paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, excellent organization skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with Sage 300 Accounting Software is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

- A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
