THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is on the lookout for a seasoned Lead Carpenter to join their small but mighty crew for commercial construction site projects. If you're a pro at turning materials into mind-blowing structures, they want you on the team! As the Lead Carpenter, you'll be leading the charge and the help of a small crew to get everything done right. Our client need’s someone who knows their stuff like the back of their hand, can handle the toughest challenges, and still has a smile on their face. You'll be swinging hammers, nailing, and cutting with precision. You'll be crafting impressive and extremely innovative buildings, frameworks, walls, roofs, fixtures, and whatever else this project demands.
Got the skills to read blueprints like it's your favourite comic book and bring those plans to life? Our client needs someone who can troubleshoot on the fly, make those quick adjustments, and keep everything on schedule. As safety is their number one priority, you will be all about keeping the crew and yourself out of harm's way. Hard hats, safety goggles, and all the rest are a must. KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
As the Lead Carpenter you will be responsible for:
Project Execution, getting stuff built:
- Taking instruction and understanding project plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Precise workmanship for completion of work, from buildings to installation of unique and custom architectural features.
- Working with different materials, including wood, metal, stone, concrete, etc. including installing wood and steel doors and steel frames, glass and glazing, wood finishes, siding and flashings, framing and backing to execute unique features.
- Hitting goals on a work schedule by breaking down tasks and deadlines.
- Organizing and coordinating materials, tools, and equipment required for each project.
- Executing carpentry tasks while adhering to safety standards and building codes.
- Monitoring progress, identifying challenges, and making necessary adjustments to meet project goals.
Working Leadership (Work, Teach, Lead):
- Working alongside and providing guidance and direction to the construction crew.
- Encouraging teamwork, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensuring that all work meets industry standards and client expectations.
- Performing inspections to check for accuracy, precision, and proper craftsmanship.
- Addressing any defects or issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
- Performing layout for other trades to follow.
Material Management:
- Coordinating with suppliers to order and receive materials needed for projects.
- Maintaining an inventory of materials and tools, ensuring efficient utilization.
- Identifying cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Providing regular project updates, including progress reports and potential delays.
- Collaborating with other construction professionals to ensure seamless project integration.
Safety Compliance:
- Upholding safety standards and enforce safety protocols at the worksite.
- Promoting a safety-first culture.
- Identifying and mitigating potential hazards to prevent accidents.
QUALIFICATIONS
As the Lead Carpenter, you will bring:
- 5 + years of proven experience as a finishing carpenter with demonstrated expertise in commercial construction.
- Ease in working solo or as part of a team under the direction of the project leader.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with a diverse team.
- Ability to work under pressure, complete tasks and meet deadlines.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity with the ability to work in various weather conditions and at heights for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and solid understanding of quality control.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Journeyperson tickets in carpentry is a plus.
- Previous experience in a senior role within the construction industry is preferred.
