Summary
The Plant Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the daily operations of our manufacturing facility. This leadership position involves strategic planning, effective team management, and ensuring the plant's efficiency and productivity. The Plant Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment, meeting production targets, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
The Plant Manager will have multiple direct reports, high visibility site management, full P&L managing all phases of the plant operations plus some customer / sales interaction.
Essential Functions
- Provide strong leadership, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
- Directly manage and coordinate the activities of various departments within the manufacturing facility.
- Serve as a member of the Management Team in strategic planning to improve organizational effectiveness, processes and policies. Collaborate with senior management to align plant operations with organizational objectives.
- Develop and implement operational strategies and plans to achieve the organization's goals.
- Effectively communicate with senior management, department heads, and front-line staff to ensure clear understanding of goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve production goals, optimize processes, and enhance overall plant efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze production metrics, ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Implement efficiency improvement initiatives and address any bottlenecks or issues in the production process.
- Responsible for all aspects of Environmental Health & Safety compliance.
- Uphold and enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance to maintain a safe and secure working environment.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for plant personnel.
- Promote a zero-injury culture. Ensure proper PPE is worn by all employees and visitors. Constant focus on implementation of proactive safety measures. Support plant leadership in all required safety and 5S audits.
- Participate in developing and executing strategic initiatives within Operations.
- Efficiently allocate resources, including manpower and equipment, to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Responsible for the optimal functionality of machinery and equipment.
- Develop and manage the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) and Operating Expenditure Plan.
- Implement measures to address any deviations or non-conformities in the production process.
- Prepare regular reports on plant performance, production metrics, and other relevant KPIs.
- Optimize operation process with continuous improvement and strategic methods to effectively manage cost reduction, processes, inventory control, space, systems, and safety programs.
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Establish and maintain maintenance schedules for key equipment and building.
- Purchase or direct the purchase of necessary production and warehouse supplies.
- Responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance for the building and grounds to ensure systems are fully operationally according to standard and regulatory requirements, while maintaining a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for staff and guests.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements to ensure favorable terms and cost-effective building services.
- Oversee safety and training programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements, including serving as the key contact for health and safety issues or infractions, managing health and safety membership, reporting and investigating near misses incidents.
- Stay informed about changes in regulations and adjust operations accordingly.
Position Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Management, Commerce, or another related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Proven track record of successful plant management, including achieving production targets, implementing process improvements, and ensuring a strong safety culture.
- Previous experience with Operational Excellence tools, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other advanced manufacturing methodologies preferred.
- Previous experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in a manufacturing facility.
- Working knowledge of knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
