Job Summary
Applications are invited for Laboratory Technologist and Assistant positions with NLHS-Central Zone for various sites/departments.

The Laboratory Technologist works primarily in the general laboratory performing all duties related to Hematology, Microbiology, Histology, Blood Transfusion, Chemistry, and Phlebotomy sections.

The Laboratory Assistant will work in a general duty Laboratory performing all duties pertaining to specimen collection and handling. This includes preparing specimens for analysis and the receipt and dispatch of specimens. Depending on work site, may be required to assist the Pathologist with autopsies and other Morgue related duties.

Both positions must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements. The successful candidate may be required to rotate in different sections of the laboratory with shift duties or rotate on weekends and statutory holidays as required.

Required qualifications:
* Graduation from High School with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
* Successful completion of a program approved by Central Health.
* Current and on-going certification with the licensing regulator.
* Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, and to use independent judgment.
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team while providing client-centered care.
* Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality.
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
