The Opportunity We are seeking out a Casual Maintenance team member to assist us with the care & overall Maintenance of our 87-suite independent living senior community. This position will start out with 8 hours per week, with the opportunity to transition into a Full Time opportunity in June 2024.
Responsibilities
- Executing general repair and maintenance work including painting, plastering, basic plumbing (e.g. replacing faucets, unblocking toilets), woodworking (e.g. replacing moulding, installing door etc.) and electrical work (tasks that do not require an electrician’s license, e.g. changing light bulbs).
- Emptying out garbage and recycling receptacles at regular intervals in order to prevent waste from accumulating, and ensures recycling materials are stored properly.
- Maintaining building exterior, grounds, parking lots and building systems, with the support from outside contractors.
- Arranging of contractor repair work & services and maintaining great relationships with our current contractors.
- Light snow removal from sidewalks and doors and applies salt to ensure resident, visitor and team member safety. (We also partner with a local grounds keeping company to assist with heavy snow removal).
- Completing the appropriate forms and documents; writing required reports based on available information in order to ensure the necessary follow-up.
- Some light-moderate computer work is also required.
- On-call responsibility for building emergencies required.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience .
- Certification, training, and work experience, including competencies, in building repairs, painting and finishes, floor care, safety procedures, property maintenance, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Proven customer service skills and excellent command of verbal and written English language.
- Experience working with seniors is an asset
- Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the residence.
- Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.
