Annual Salary (40 hours/week): $112188.96 - $140235.68

Marine Atlantic's mission is to provide a safe, environmentally responsible, and quality ferry service between the Island Province of Newfoundland and the Province of Nova Scotia in a reliable, courteous, and cost-effective manner. The Corporation provides ferry services on two routes. The first is a year-round, 96 nautical mile daily ferry service between Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. The second, offered from mid-June until late September, is a 280 nautical mile tri-weekly ferry service between Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Marine Atlantic Inc. (MAI) is a Federal Crown Corporation that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Transport. Meridia has partnered with MAI in search of a Director of Supply Chain Management to join their team in North Sydney, Nova Scotia or Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Role Description


As the Director of Supply Chain Management, you will be responsible for all aspects of the Supply Chain Department, which includes Procurement, Inventory Management, and Warehousing and Logistics Management. You will develop purchasing strategy, budgets, plans, policies, systems, and procedures that will achieve company strategic procurement objectives. You will be accountable for overall planning, implementation, and optimization of activities, and supporting in the delivery of products to customers. Furthermore, you will supervise, manage, coach, and mentor the staff and management team of the department, while monitoring departmental performance and progress of key performance indicators.


The Director is a member of the Senior Leadership Group which oversees the various committees and subcommittees established to support the Corporations strategic goals and objectives that are established by the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.


Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing purchasing strategies, plans, policies, systems, and procedures
• Managing purchasing process to assure compliance with provisions of the corporation's procurement policies, regulations and federal trade treaties.
• Developing and enhancing of KPIs, reports, and business processes to ensure continuous improvements in compliance and quality
• Preparing and reporting on supply chain management utilization
• Ensuring compliance with Canada Labour Code and other applicable legislation.
• Overseeing the development, implementation, and support of warehouse, logistics, inventory management, and supply chain initiatives that support overall Company goals.
• Participating in the assessment and review of initiatives, change proposals, and related projects
• Serving as an advisor and assistant in budget formulation and presentation as well as with execution services and documentation
• Researching and resolving discrepancies in budget reports and submissions
• Applying strategies to analyze financial statements and using related information in budget preparation
• Maintaining an awareness of goals and objectives and navigating solutions towards desired ends, while maintaining relationships and supporting consensus
• Using all available and appropriate information to guide decisions and negotiations in order to meet objectives, while acting with integrity
• Overseeing the development and management of a supplier relationship management program that ensures all service providers are performing as per agreed deliverables
• Collaborating with the legal department around language standards for both existing and new contracts
• Developing detailed Statements of Work that clearly define the scope of the work to be performed throughout the contract process and leave no details to assumption

Your Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you have a degree in a relevant field, with several years of experience in a senior decision-making role. Your background has included working in a unionized environment within a regulated industry, with experience in transportation being considered an asset. You demonstrate strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and an ability to influence. You have a strong working knowledge of financial management practices and principles and of accounting and finance as it relates to supply chain operations. Certification in project management, risk mitigation and/or supply chain management, as well as experience in supply chain ERP systems are considered assets.


Your qualifications include:
• Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration/Commerce, Public Administration, or a related
• 5-10 years of experience in a senior decision-making role within supply chain management
• Strategic mindset with honed analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally across an organization and deliver on project management accountabilities
• Strong organizational skills and an attention to detail
