GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Ice Operator (Level 1) is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Ice Facilities for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. Key responsibilities include the operation of Ice Resurfacers and maintaining a safe and clean facility for all user groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate equipment including, but not limited to, Zambonis, ice edgers, floor scrubbers, and other equipment where qualified.

• Ensure the Ice Facilities are maintained in accordance to the RRC policies and procedures.

• Comply with department procedures at all times and ensure building standards and efficiencies are maintained.

• Create positive experiences for user groups including preparing the ice surface for rentals in a timely fashion, ensuring dressing rooms are assigned accordingly, answering inquiries about the facility, and handling complaints.

• Able to navigate the maintenance planning computer program and perform preventative maintenance work about building and equipment maintenance in all RRC Facilities.

• Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.

• Provide support functions with other Facilities Management operations and maintenance as required.

• Assist in all aspects of the preparation and execution of events, programs and projects at the RRC.

• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalency

AARFP Arena Operator Level 1 (Equivalent certifications will be considered)

• Building Maintenance Level 1 & 2 Certification is an asset.

• Current Intermediate First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C) is an asset.

• Previous arena and custodial experience is an asset.

• Arial lift, fall protection, fork lift, skid steer certifications is an asset.

Minimum one (1) year experience in arena operations

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrate ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently.

• Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor.

• Thrive in a team environment, enjoy working as a team member as well as independently.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License Required

WORKING CONDITIONS

• This position includes heavy lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.

• This position requires work at varied heights from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.

• Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor.

• This position requires a flexible schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night, and weekend work and may require a rotating shift.

• This position involves working under variable temperature conditions, in indoor and outdoor settings.

• This position may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
