Position Summary
Seabird Island Community School is seeking to fill various positions for On Call Teachers. As a TOC, you will work in the absence of a regular teacher to aid students in understanding a subject matter, as well as to provide skills required for programmed lessons and purposeful training for the assigned classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach on behalf of the regular teachers when they are on leave/not available
Follow the curriculum and lesson plans made by the regular teacher
Instruction and delivery of curriculum in keeping with the BC Ministry of Education Integrated Resource Packages, outlines and prescribed learning outcomes or as outlined by school administration
Delivering Read Well, Reading Mastery and Saxon Math with fidelity
Meeting all reporting and assessment deadlines associated with Read Well, Read Mastery, Saxon Math and Dibels
Ensure that Progress Monitoring is delivered as intended for green, yellow and red categories
Preparation for School wide assessments: i.e. FSA and CAT 4
Lesson preparation
Encourage the students to take part in the extracurricular activities
Meet with the parents of the child and inform them on the progress
Update the regular teachers on all that has taken place in the classroom in their absence on their return
Taking and reporting attendance of students
Development of Individual Education Plans with special education teacher
Carrying out instruction of Individual Education Plans with required adaptations and modifications
Assessment and exam oversight
Education / Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Education.
Must be a B.C. Certified Teacher with a valid TQS card
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing a wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs of children in Elementary and High School level.
Excellent classroom management, behavioral management and organizational skills
Training and experience in successfully using a variety of resources to teach.
Maintains and promotes working relationships with community professionals.
Able to teach any subject that is required of them to students of any age
Participates in the ongoing planning, development and extension of services.
Collaborating with teachers to develop more effective strategies to work with special needs students.
Willingness to contribute to a positive school culture by volunteering in extracurricular activities.
High professional and ethical standards
Able to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island School Policies and Procedures
Experience working with First Nations community would be an asset
Class 5 driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Satisfactory Criminal Records Checks
