About MistyWest

MistyWest is a hardware engineering consultancy that exists to create novel technologies that enable a healthier planet and bring prosperity to all humankind, with a focus primarily on hardware projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Role 

MistyWest is hiring an 8-month co-op student for the May 2024 term who has a strong research and development focus and is well-versed in a range of engineering skills, including mechatronics, electrical engineering and firmware development. This role will strongly focus on product development and require fast and adaptable hands-on learning.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers and engineers to complete product development and research tasks in various industries and market segments.

MistyWest develops products in many innovative and unproven applications, so you must be obsessed with learning new skills and technology as well as highly comfortable with ambiguity and the unknown. You are used to working with diverse product development teams and are a great communicator. You thrive in collaborative environments and look forward to working in our beautiful office in Mount Pleasant for 5 days a week.

Requirements

• 4th or 5th year undergrad in Engineering Physics
• Preferred some previous coop work experience
• Working knowledge of electrical design, firmware development, and methods of applied mathematics and physics
• Ability to perform simulations and modeling
• Familiarity with the algorithms,and methods of data science
• Familiarity of rapid prototyping devices like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and evaluation kits
• Linux driver development knowledge/experience is an asset
• Experience using PCB layout and schematic capture (e.g. Altium, Eagle, KiCAD, PADs, etc)
• Experience with RTOS (Zephyr RTOS in particular)
• Behavioural competencies- flexibility, adaptability, proactivity, motivation, aptitude for leadership
