Job description

Do you have experience in contract management and park and site planning and design, paired with excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills? If so, we want you on our Parks Services Team!

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for assisting in the acquisition, planning, design, preparation and implementation of development plans for parks and recreation facilities in the Regional District of Central Okanagan. This position will assist in the development, capture and maintenance of the park’s asset management program. This position will also assist in the facilitation and preparation of park plans for existing community and regional parks, including the acquisition of site survey data, preparation of landscape design drawing sets (inclusive of design details), park management plans, and preparation of presentation drawings for review and presentation to internal and external interest holders and elected officials.

You will:

  1. Develop design drawings, details, technical specifications, schedule of quantities and cost estimates for tendering and implementation.
  2. Complete park site land surveys as required.
  3. Perform construction contract administration and supervision of various park projects.
  4. Assist and provide recommendations in the development and on-going implementation of the Park Services Asset Management Program.
  5. Complete park asset inventories using GPS.
  6. Assist and provide recommendations towards the preparation of park development and management plans, such as:
    • Research and analysis
    • Preparation of park concept plans
    • Cost estimating and implementation
  7. Assist in the coordination of community consultation processes related to park planning and development projects.
  8. Assist in the collection, analyzing, and maintenance of digital spatial data and files for the operation of parks and trails, production of GIS maps, and organization and administration of ecological, planning, development and operational inventory data and files.
  9. Assist in the presentation of park development and management plans to RDCO staff, members of the public and elected officials.
  10. Assist in the maintenance of the Parks Geographic Information System (GIS) database of all park properties, infrastructure, and ecosystems.
  11. Complete digital mapping requests from internal and external clients.
  12. Assist in development application referral reviews for conformance with current legislation and policy (internal and external) and provide recommendations.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will have a Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology or a related site planning discipline and three years’ experience. You will have demonstrated training in Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the ability to complete site surveys and designs, skills in the use of traditional and GPS inventory/survey grade survey equipment and knowledge of the BC Local Government Act. Additionally, you will be a self-starter with great problem solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting. A valid BC Driver’s License is required.

This is a CUPE 338 position that will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and pays an hourly rate of $39.78 per hour.
