Important Note: We are looking for a Machinist with a specific skill set as below:
Work consists of 80% Manual/ 20% CNC
- Manual Equipment - Lathe Machine, Vertical Milling, Horizontal Milling, Surface Grinder, Brand Saw & Hand Tools/Preparation
- CNC – HAAS Mini Mill
Schedule: Monday to Friday (8 hour days)
Specific Responsibilities:
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers…….
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations…….
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process…….
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures…….
- Prepare samples according to CSA, ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements
- Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information
- Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required
Education: Third to fourth the year apprentice or certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential
Certification: Working toward Interprovincial Standards Red Seal
Experience : 3 + years
Specific technical skills:
Mechanical -- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Work consists of 80% Manual/ 20% CNC

Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
- the ability to use their hands skillfully and quickly
- the ability to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately
- strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques required to handle items weighing up to 25 kilograms.
- the ability to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort
- basic computer knowledge
- Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiply projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well with independently
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
