We invest in the growth and development of our teams to actively participate in the creation of memories and moments that matter to our residents.About the RoleThe Therapeutic Recreation Manager (TRM) reports General Manager and/or designate and is accountable for all aspects of the Recreation Department. The TRM leads the Recreation staff and volunteers to assess residents by meeting the emotional, cognitive, physical, social, spiritual needs and interests of the residents. This role develops, implements, and evaluates Recreation services to support all persons served.RESPONSIBILITIES:Include but not limited to: Engage and mobilize your team to achieve the purpose, goals, objective and key results of the organization. Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose. Model the values and leadership behaviours of organization and inspire other to do the same. Responsible for the employee life cycle including; recruitment, orientation and performance management of Recreation staff. the Volunteer Program at the community. Participates in grievance handling by liaising with union representative, administering and communicating to staff on collective agreement articles, employee handbook, policies and procedures, thereby minimizing employee conflict and concerns. Provides ongoing probationary and performance evaluations. Identifies education needs for employees. Manages all work schedules, coordinates work assignments and maintains direct care hours as required. Coordinates student placement programs within the Recreation Department and completes any documentation of such programs. Attends leadership team meetings, provides input into and participates in the strategic plan for assigned areas of responsibility. Participates in the planning and implementation of the budget, both operating and capital. Acts as the community liaison for the Resident Council. Coordinates support for the Resident Council as necessary. Liaises with community agencies, groups and individuals to augment programs and promote the community. Oversees and updates standards, procedures and records in order to maintain an organized and efficient department. Maintains a safe environment for residents/family and staff, through:(a) Accident prevention,(b) Knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, supplies and equipment,(c) Appropriate utilization of infection control procedure. Develops and distributes monthly recreation program calendars and newsletters. Completes and submits Departmental month end reports. Maintains the community bus safety program including, but not limited to, scheduling bus maintenance, inspections, licensing requirements of drivers, and safety procedures. On a regular basis attends in-service and education sessions to continually upgrade professional skills. Completes resident assessments and maintains care plans in accordance with provincial and governing regulations. Facilitates programs and Interventions for the residents. Provides mentorship and education to staff on clinical best practice in the field of Therapeutic Recreation. Reports and documents in the Interdisciplinary Resident Progress Record relevant observations concerning resident behaviour and communicates these observations to other members of the care team. Participates in community and corporate Continuous Quality Improvement Committees and initiatives as required. Perform all other duties as required.Qualifications & Skills Graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Program, Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Certification from Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) as required. A minimum of two years’ management experience in a seniors housing setting preferred. Current Basic CPR / First Aid qualifications. Current class 4 BC Driver’s License as required. Current Food Safe Certification required. Current Serving It Right Certification required. All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines. Ability to understand the needs of seniors. Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment. Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently. Solid working knowledge of related office equipment and Windows based software including Word, Excel and Outlook. Previous financial management experience.
