A leading energy company has an immediate requirement for an experienced Financial Accountant for their Calgary team.
Your new role
- Assist in the preparation and analysis functions of the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements, Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), and management reporting requirements
- Liaise with external auditors in completing audit requests
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and related analysis
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards, including relevant research and documentation as required
- Assist in the design, review, and evaluation of internal controls
- Administer and perform controls over the financial reporting processes
- Research and prepare variance analysis and explanations by analyzing past results, identifying trends, and key drivers to the business
- Increase productivity by developing or improving automated reporting tools/ models
What you'll need to succeed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures for US GAAP
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to perform independent analysis with attention to detail
- Strong ability to apply professional judgment in determining the appropriate accounting or reporting methods in various situations, evaluating possible solutions and providing recommendations
- Strong ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with various levels within an organization, demonstrated by good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands within tight deadlines
- Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency, with a willingness to challenge status quo
- Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); experience with SAP (financial modules) would be an asset
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree with a major in Accounting or Finance plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Professional Accounting designation (CPA) required
