THE POSITION
As a Survey & Field Designer, you will be required to use your knowledge and experience to complete aerial, topographic, rail and water crossing surveys for third-party companies on a variety of projects throughout Ontario.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts field surveys through a variety of mediums including but not limited to; Aerial, GPS, Topographical surveys and review of 3rd-party permits.
- Preparation and translation of field work to supply finished product to the project coordinator/project manager/engineering department.
- Drive technology and innovation ideas to support field to office efficiencies.
- Create drawings, sketches and details of site conditions using technology based platforms.
- Investigate, audit and prepare field reports on existing telecommunication equipment.
- Propose design remedies and solutions in conjunction with the project design staff.
- Coordinate with various client, sub contractors and site contacts to facilitate access to buildings, shelters and cabinets. Act as both a client and Planview USL representative to deal with residential and commercial based public.
- Walk out and provide quality control feedback on proposed designs against existing field conditions, redline and provide solutions for non compliant items.
- Meet with clients to discuss design solutions on site and address potential road blocks. Report back to the Project Manager.
- Ongoing development of company’s survey processes and methodologies to further develop operational efficiencies.
- Other activities as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions up to 90% of the time.
- Travel in Ontario, requiring overnight stays is required more than 50% of the time.
- Experience with Topcon and Trimble devices.
- Experience working with GPS and Total Station Equipment.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Valid Ontario Class G license and clean driving abstract.
- Working, reliable own care, travel daily is required as part of the position.
- Ability to work longer days, in remote areas with little to no direct supervision.
- Work overtime hours as required.
- Able to work in a team atmosphere.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Past telecom, outside plan design or construction experience an asset.
LOCATION:
Planview Utility Services has 3 offices – Markham, London, and Ottawa. These positions are located all throughout Ontario.
