Junior Accountant
The Sutherland Group is looking for a Junior Accountant to join our Finance organization in either Nelson or West Kelowna BC. The Junior Accountant will perform a variety of accounting duties including customer invoicing, accounts payable management, reconciling bank accounts, preparing monthly reports, and aiding with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures. This position provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment, with a variety of responsibilities for a growing and diverse group of business lines.
SUMMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a key member of the finance team your responsibilities will vary depending on monthly billing and closing cycles and business needs. Those responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Customer invoicing and accounts receivable management.
- Accounts payable processing including entering and paying bills, verifying purchase orders, and reconciling vendor statements.
- Reconciling bank accounts and credit card statements.
- Accounting for capital purchases and sales and associated monthly depreciation.
- Recording and maintaining loan payment schedules.
- Assisting with the fuel program including posting and reconciling fuel purchases, keeping track of and ordering fuel cards.
- Preparing post period-end entries
- Preparing profit and loss and other financial reports.
- Preparing and submit government tax remittances.
- Assist with ad-hoc accounting and administrative projects as required.
- Communicating effectively with customers, vendors and team members.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
As a member of the finance team, we expect you to bring the following to the table:
- 3+ years of accounting experience.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Active pursuit of accounting designation is considered an asset.
- Experience with accounting software (specific experience using QuickBooks is an asset).
- High level of attention to detail and quantitative skills.
- Strong knowledge of financial principles and accounting practices.
- Expertise with MS Suite and in particular MS Excel.
- Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative team player.
