As the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ prime service provider at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador, our team delivers comprehensive air operations, emergency services, logistics and engineering expertise to the Department of National Defence. We work on behalf of DND’s “no fail” mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere, and challenging training location. You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient services to DND. Purpose of the Job:
- Plan, organize and direct front-line employees on daily/weekly activities in the HVAC, Steam units to meet Section service delivery objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures, including but not limited to Code of Conduct and Ethics, Serco Management System, PDR’s, alcohol and drug and etc.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise all HVAC, Heating systems, Steam, Oil Burner Mechanic resources, equipment, and materials to complete assigned work orders/projects, in a manner consistent with quality, regulations, time and cost requirements.
- Inspect work sites periodically to ensure compliance with industry work standards, plans and schedules, and safe work practices.
- Provide reliable steam distribution, steam/ hot water/glycol heating systems and HVAC systems
- Perform hands on work in support of section service delivery objectives.
- Maintain and review maintenance system work order data and complete all work order and assigned project records.
- Recommend and implement changes to SOPs’, work methods, procedures and equipment to improve quality, timely effectiveness, safety, and customer service.
- Ensure staff is properly trained for assigned duties, procedures and policies.
- Preparation of cost estimates as requested.
- Required to operate light duty vehicles, and other equipment necessary in the performance of assigned duties.
- Train apprentices to industry standard and endorse appropriate documentation.
- Participate in assigned training/certification to perform work of the contract.
- May be required to work in remote and isolated sites.
- Perform stand by duties as operationally required.
- Assist with electric satellite boilers as required.
- Direct subordinate employees in performance of section tasks and responsibilities.
- Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure that standards for the accomplishment of short-term priorities are clearly articulated to staff and that resources are made available to achieve the standard.
- Communicate key business objectives to front-line staff.
- Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices and ensure that all staff across the organization are practicing these Values daily.
- Responsible for performance management of subordinate employees, including authority to initiate corrective action in line with HR approval model.
When required, perform the duties of TA Construction Manager. Duties include but not limited to:
- Support Senior Project Manager & Service Delivery Manager in estimating project costs, establishing project budgets and schedules; monitoring and controlling project cost and schedule performance
- Assist with sourcing equipment and materials required to execute project
- Responsible for ensuring project stays on track meeting budget, timelines, labour, and materials projections
- Ensure TA’s are reconciled, accurate and submitted within the established deadline for yourself and your direct reports
- Ensure all work orders associated with project are accurate and closed in a timely manner to allow for efficient billing and payment.
- Develop and Execute Project Specific Safety Plans
- Surveillance and inspection of work to enforce quality of workmanship requirements
- Responsible to coordinate the work between departments to complete project’s overall goal, includes the scheduling of staff and equipment
- Proactively and frequently communicate concerns regarding project status/any variation in originally projected scope/timeline/budget as well as how customer mandated changes impact original deliverable
- Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.
Hourly Rate: 52.78 Hours Per Week 37.5
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Possession of a valid Journeyperson NL certificate in one or more of the following trades – Steamfitter, Refrigeration, HVAC, Instrumentation and Controls or other applicable trade and a minimum of three years’ supervisory experience.
- Halocarbon certification would be an asset.
- Excellent computer skills in MS Office suite.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 NL Driver’s license.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Level II clearance.
- Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
- Ability to evaluate risk and related mitigation strategies.
- Contractual understanding of SOW and labour agreements.
- Communicates effectively – able to articulate ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.
- Initiative – the ability to think and act ahead, takes a proactive approach in anticipating problems and driving opportunities.
- Supervises people effectively – follows through with performance management including objective setting, regular feedback and review.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to work on and track multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to obtain Driver’s abstract.
