Company Overview
Our client is ASX-listed company based in Australia, that holds 100% ownership of a lithium project in Brazil. The world-class Project is now venturing into its feasibility study phase, with a goal of commencing Lithium production in 2026.
 
Job Summary
The Mine Planning Engineer role is an important contributor to the Definitive Feasibility Study, to the generation of mine design and planning options and scenarios, and then the ongoing development of the mine plan as it is approved, implemented and optimized.

 
Accountabilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 
Technical

Communicate, train, audit, and advise project and operations teams to ensure that the mining work system is understood and subsequently used consistently and effectively by all personnel and contractor partners. Optimize these systems to ensure that engineering results meet the project and overall business needs.

Plan the mine’s needs for all activities related to the Project and other studies. Oversee mining interfaces with other functions, including geology, mineral resource definition, construction, administration, licensing, finance (taxes), manufacturing, operations, community, social, and environmental aspects. Have direct involvement in managing all mineral rights of LRS, including the application, licensing, and tenure maintenance processes.

Ensure that proposed, planned, and constructed mine facilities are legal and sustainable, complying with all Company requirements to enable project licensing, financing, construction, and operations. Manage technical consultants and mining service providers while they perform work for or on behalf of the Company to ensure compliance and sustainability.

Lead the risk management program for the recognition, analysis, and control of mining-related risks. Define and ensure the effective implementation of safety, health, community, project, and operational risk controls.

Provide effective reports on project implementation and performance trends (risk, safety, quality, cost, and time) to the mining areas.

Generate and manage all Ore Reserves. Prepare materials for reporting to the stock exchange (ASX, JORC, and potentially TSX) and investors. Preferably, be willing to seek certification as a Qualified Professional (QP) for Lithium Mining Reserves.

Capability Attributes
Must / Essential:

Being an advanced user of Deswik software with proven skills in conducting mathematical pit optimization and operational pit studies, mine sequencing, dilution studies, waste-to-ore ratio analyses, and trade-offs, including open-pit and underground mine studies. Key short-term deliverables include:

Providing quick and accurate results for analysis and transparent reporting, enhanced by visual audits using 3D mining sequence animations. This makes the results accessible to all stakeholders, from the mining site to the boardroom.

Mine Planning, Design, and Sequencing experience for a Greenfields deposit

Equipment Selection and Optimization experience

Interpersonal Relationships and Negotiations: Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders (both internal and external). The ability to listen to and understand stakeholders and then translate their input into technical assumptions beneficial to the company is essential.

Currently residing in Belo Horizonte for the study and initial stages of project development, and then transition to being residential in North of Minas Gerais from the time that the mining services contracts are mobilized, through to the production ramp-up and operations period.

Should:

Have participated in mining, engineering, contractor selection, and large projects (>US$ 250 million) at least once, preferably multiple times, within Brazil, serving as part of the owner’s team in the role of Manager in a recognized mining consultancy services company.

Be familiar with and have effectively used contemporary data-centric mining planning and design tools and methodologies. Should also be aware of activities related to JORC (Qualified Person for Mineral Reserves). Familiarity with Brazilian mining contractor management to optimize their productivity and costs.

Possess fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and be an effective communicator in English with a Cambridge C2 level or higher.

Has worked for an LSE, NYSE, ASX or TSX listed mining company and has demonstrated success working in teams with an Anglo-Brazilian culture.
